  • • Develop machine learning and operations research models to optimize demand forecasting, assortment planning, purchase order allocation, and price optimization for a $12B+ retail enterprise with 800+ physical stores.
  • • Apply advanced operations research techniques including mixed-integer programming, dynamic programming, graph theory, spatial optimization, and simulation to solve real-time inventory and fulfillment decision problems.
  • • Integrate predictive machine learning models with optimization solvers to create hybrid decision frameworks that enable scenario-aware policy simulation and adaptive decisioning.
  • • Build and operationalize enterprise-grade decision engines that automate fulfillment logic across merchandising, inventory planning, and pricing systems.
  • • Collaborate with engineering teams to deploy models into production using real-time data pipelines, cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), and observability tools for scalability and reliability.
  • • Ensure all models are interpretable, auditable, and aligned with business constraints, operational policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • • Design and implement streaming data architectures to support low-latency inference and real-time optimization for dynamic inventory decisions.
  • • Partner with product and operations leaders to define decision boundaries, success metrics, and business constraints for data science initiatives.
  • • Conduct A/B tests and switchback experiments to validate the impact of optimization models on operational performance and customer experience.
  • • Communicate complex technical insights, model performance, and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders across merchandising, supply chain, and executive teams.
  • • Stay current with advancements in operations research, AI, and machine learning to inform enterprise roadmaps and maintain best-in-class merchandising and inventory optimization capabilities.
  • • Leverage Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, scikit-learn, SQL, Spark, and Airflow to develop, test, and deploy data science solutions at scale.
  • • Utilize graph algorithms and path planning techniques to optimize spatial routing and warehouse pick paths for fulfillment efficiency.
  • • Work within an Agile environment using project management tools such as Jira or Azure DevOps to deliver iterative improvements to inventory decision systems.
  • • Apply causal inference and experimentation design principles to evaluate the impact of operational changes driven by data science models.
  • • Maintain a collaborative, problem-solving mindset focused on delivery, continuous learning, and cross-functional alignment.
  • • Support the development of reinforcement learning or contextual bandit approaches for adaptive decisioning in evolving retail environments.
  • • Contribute to the design and implementation of hybrid ML-OR frameworks that combine predictive analytics with mathematical optimization for inventory 360 systems.
  • • Bring experience with eCommerce, retail, or customer-facing fulfillment systems to enhance the relevance and impact of modeling efforts.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in Operations Research, Computer Science, Statistics, or related field
  • • 4+ years of experience building optimization and ML models in assortment planning, fulfillment, or supply chain domains
  • • Proficiency in operations research techniques: linear/mixed-integer programming, simulation, queuing theory
  • • Expertise in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, scikit-learn, SQL, Spark, Airflow, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • • Experience with real-time decisioning systems and streaming data architectures
  • • Familiarity with reinforcement learning, contextual bandits, or hybrid ML-OR frameworks
