• • As a Senior Database Engineer at Vision Service Plan (VSP), you will be at the forefront of managing and optimizing our critical database infrastructure. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity, performance, and availability of our data systems, which are fundamental to VSP's operations and the exceptional service we provide to our members and partners.
• • You will be entrusted with the complete lifecycle management of our Database Management Systems (DBMS), from initial design and planning through to ongoing maintenance, performance tuning, and strategic modifications. Your expertise will directly impact business needs by ensuring our databases are robust, scalable, and efficient.
• • A key responsibility involves the meticulous maintenance and modification of existing databases. This includes proactively identifying areas for improvement, implementing necessary changes to align with evolving business requirements, and ensuring seamless integration with other systems.
• • You will actively manage and leverage database monitoring tools, diligently examining performance metrics and overall functionality. This data-driven approach allows for proactive identification of potential issues and the implementation of targeted tuning strategies to guarantee an optimal user experience for our business stakeholders.
• • Developing and executing comprehensive database strategies will be central to your role. These strategies will focus on maintaining the highest standards of database quality, ensuring continuous alignment with business objectives, and anticipating future needs.

• • Post-implementation, you will collaborate closely with developers to ensure quality control assurance. This includes providing guidance and ensuring a clear understanding of data structures, access methods, and best practices for data utilization.
• • You will be responsible for directing and/or executing physical database changes required by applications, ensuring these changes are implemented accurately, efficiently, and with minimal disruption.
• • Maintaining accurate and up-to-date database schemas and data descriptions within the Data Dictionary is essential for documentation and knowledge sharing across teams.
• • A critical aspect of this role is establishing, creating, and maintaining robust business continuity and disaster recovery policies, procedures, and plans. You will be responsible for creating and facilitating test case scenarios to validate all backup and recovery planning, ensuring VSP's data resilience.
• • You will partner with users to determine and develop data models that support user reporting needs, including ad-hoc reporting based on complex queries. This also involves identifying and eradicating existing user data misuse or data conflicts to maintain data integrity.
• • Ensuring the integrity of our data and strict adherence to license compliance for all databases is paramount.
• • You will be responsible for the end-to-end planning, management, and execution of upgrades for our DBMS and other database-related tools, staying abreast of new technologies and best practices.
• • Planning and coordinating comprehensive database security measures is vital to maintain data integrity and protect sensitive information.
• • You are expected to remain current on emerging database technologies and trends, proactively introducing applicable technologies that align with VSP's goals and foster creative solutions.
• • This role requires you to drive constructive change within the database engineering function and provide leadership and mentorship to other team members.
