Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the end-to-end design vision for SurveyMonkey’s flagship survey creation and analysis platform, shaping experiences used by 20 million+ active users and 345,000+ paying organizations across 190 countries.
- • Own the design strategy for multiple high-impact product pillars—survey creation, data collection, AI-powered insights, and respondent experience—translating complex research workflows into elegant, intuitive interfaces that feel effortless for both first-time creators and power users.
- • Champion a human-centered design process that starts with deep user empathy: run contextual interviews, diary studies, and unmoderated usability tests with researchers, HR leaders, marketers, and educators to uncover latent needs and pain points that quantitative data alone can’t reveal.
- • Rapidly iterate from low-fidelity sketches to pixel-perfect prototypes in Figma, leveraging SurveyMonkey’s robust design system (Odyssey) while pushing its boundaries to introduce new patterns for AI-assisted question writing, branching logic, and real-time collaboration.
- • Partner daily with Product Managers, Engineers, Data Scientists, and UX Writers in dual-track agile squads; facilitate design sprints, story-mapping sessions, and weekly design critiques that keep the entire team laser-focused on user outcomes and measurable business impact.
- • Drive accessibility and inclusive design as non-negotiable defaults—audit components for WCAG 2.2 AA compliance, champion keyboard-first interactions, and ensure every color palette, animation, and microcopy works for users with diverse abilities and contexts.
- • Establish and socialize clear success metrics for every feature you ship: define hypotheses, instrument events in Amplitude, and run A/B tests that validate whether new designs increase survey completion rates, reduce time-to-insight, or boost NPS among key personas.
- • Mentor a distributed team of 3–5 mid-level and junior designers through weekly 1:1s, pair-design sessions, and quarterly growth plans; give candid, actionable feedback that accelerates their craft and career trajectory while fostering psychological safety.
- • Contribute to SurveyMonkey’s evolving brand expression by collaborating with Marketing and Brand Design to ensure product UI, marketing sites, and campaign visuals feel like one cohesive, trustworthy family—especially as we expand into AI-driven research automation.
- • Present strategic design narratives to C-level stakeholders and the Board twice per quarter, using compelling storytelling and data to secure buy-in for bold bets like conversational survey builders, predictive analytics dashboards, and mobile-first creation flows.
- • Stay ahead of emerging design and research trends—run internal “lunch-and-learns” on topics like generative AI in UX, zero-party data ethics, and mixed-method research—then translate insights into practical playbooks that level-up the entire Product & Design org.
- • Influence the broader design community by writing case studies for our public blog, speaking at conferences like UX Week or UXDX, and open-sourcing components from Odyssey so the industry benefits from what we’ve learned at scale.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of product design experience with at least 3 years owning complex, data-rich web applications that serve both B2B and B2C audiences.
- • Expert command of Figma, including advanced prototyping, auto-layout, and design-token workflows; familiarity with React and Storybook for design-dev handoff.
- • Demonstrated ability to run mixed-method research (moderated usability, unmoderated first-click, card sorting, diary studies) and translate findings into measurable design improvements.
- • Portfolio showcasing end-to-end case studies where you identified a user or business problem, framed success metrics, shipped a solution, and quantified its impact.
- • Nice-to-have: experience designing for AI/ML-driven features, enterprise SaaS, or survey/market-research tools; formal training in HCI, Psychology, or related field.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully-remote culture with quarterly in-person design off-sites in destinations like Lisbon, Mexico City, or Vancouver—flights, hotels, and meals covered.
- • Annual professional-development budget of $3,500 for conferences, courses, or coaching, plus five dedicated “learning days” per year.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage for you and dependents, plus a $1,000 annual wellness stipend for gym memberships, therapy, or ergonomic gear.
- • 20 days PTO to start, 12 company holidays, and a four-week paid sabbatical after every four years of service.
