📋 Description

• The Senior Director of Strategic Portfolio Management, R&D is a senior leader responsible for maximizing the value, balance, and sustainability of Viatris’s R&D pipeline, ensuring investment decisions align with corporate strategy, scientific priorities, and long-term value creation.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include leading R&D portfolio reviews and workplan processes, managing enterprise portfolio reviews and investment committees, supporting long-range R&D planning with financial modeling and scenario analysis, establishing portfolio analytics and dashboards, partnering cross-functionally with Pre-Clinical, Clinical, Regulatory, CMC, Commercial, and BD teams, and building and leading a high-performing Strategic Portfolio Management team.

• In this role, the individual will develop expertise in R&D portfolio strategy, financial modeling (NPV, rNPV), scenario planning, and executive-level decision support, while building leadership capabilities, fostering evidence-based decision-making culture, and advancing career paths within R&D portfolio management.

🎯 Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (PhD, MD, PharmD, MSc, or MBA) strongly preferred
• 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical or biotech R&D, including senior leadership roles in program or portfolio management
• Proven leadership in strategic portfolio management, R&D strategy, or investment governance
• Deep understanding of the drug development lifecycle and R&D economics
• Strong strategic and analytical thinking with high financial acumen, ability to synthesize scientific, clinical, and commercial inputs into clear recommendations
• Excellent communication skills, including board-level materials and presentations, with executive presence and strong influencing and facilitation skills
