- • Lead, grow, and mentor a globally distributed team of database internals engineers, owning hiring, performance management, career development, and team health.
- • Own team execution and set the technical roadmap in partnership with Product, balancing speed, quality, and long-term maintainability of database systems.
- • Manage multiple teams focused on dedicated areas of the product, including TimescaleDB and other critical business products.
- • Engage with high-value customers on escalations and elevated technical needs, translating their feedback into actionable priorities for the engineering team.
- • Collaborate closely with the Platform Engineering team and other engineering leaders to deliver a world-class experience for customers on Tiger Cloud.
- • Stay technically engaged with the codebase to contribute to design decisions, with deep familiarity in database or systems software.
- • Foster a bottom-up culture that encourages accountability, direct communication, and collaborative excellence across a remote-first organization.
- • Drive the development of industrial-strength systems software with a focus on reliability, performance, and scalability for transactional, analytical, and agentic workloads.
- • Maintain strong technical depth in distributed systems or databases, including knowledge of SQL, query processing, concurrency control, data replication, and distributed systems.
- • Be an enthusiastic and personable leader who sets a high bar and supports the broader engineering organization’s success through mentorship and alignment.
- • Contribute to the evolution of PostgreSQL-based infrastructure, including features like Hypertables, Hypercore, vector search, and real-time analytics.
- • Ensure clear and timely communication throughout the engineering team’s workflow, aligning with Tiger Data’s commitment to transparency and objective evaluation.
- • Uphold the company’s values of curiosity, collaboration, and diversity while building a community that supports both professional and personal growth.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of engineering experience, including a minimum of 4+ years managing engineers or engineering teams.
- • Proven track record of building and leading high-performing teams that ship industrial-strength systems software.
- • Strong technical depth in distributed systems or databases; experience with C/C++ on large code bases is highly desirable.
- • Familiarity with PostgreSQL internals is a strong plus.
- • Solid knowledge of SQL, query processing, database engines, concurrency control, data replication, and/or distributed systems.
- • Passion for building highly reliable system software and for developing the people who build it.
