đź“‹ Description
- • Join Twilio as our next Senior Financial Analyst, R&D Finance, a pivotal role where you will serve as the dedicated finance partner to our innovative Research and Development teams. This position is crucial for driving financial rigor and strategic investment decisions within R&D, with a primary focus on operational expenditure (opex) management and spend optimization across critical areas such as headcount, vendor relationships, and discretionary budgets.
- • You will be instrumental in leading the monthly and quarterly forecasting processes for R&D opex. This involves meticulous planning and projection of expenses related to personnel, external vendor services, and other operational expenditures, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and resource allocation.
- • A core responsibility will be conducting in-depth variance analysis. You will dissect financial performance against forecasts, identify key drivers of deviations, and provide actionable insights and recommendations to R&D leadership. This includes proactively highlighting potential risks and emerging opportunities to ensure financial health and strategic alignment.
- • You will collaborate closely with R&D stakeholders to evaluate and assess the financial viability and strategic impact of opex investments. This partnership extends across both short-term operational needs and long-term strategic initiatives, ensuring that R&D investments are optimized for maximum return and impact.
- • The role requires diligent tracking and analysis of key operational metrics, including headcount utilization, patterns in vendor spend, and budget consumption across various R&D functions. This data-driven approach will inform financial planning and resource allocation decisions.
- • You will play a key role in supporting Return on Investment (ROI) analyses for R&D initiatives. This involves gathering necessary data, constructing robust financial models, and delivering insightful analytical perspectives to both Finance and Product teams, enabling informed decision-making on project prioritization and resource deployment.
- • Develop and maintain flexible, dynamic financial models designed to support ad hoc analysis and scenario planning. These models will be critical tools for evaluating the financial implications of various strategic options and operational decisions within the R&D landscape.
- • Foster a collaborative environment by working cross-functionally with various departments to identify and implement opportunities for increased cost efficiency and operational effectiveness within the R&D organization.
- • A significant aspect of this role involves translating complex financial data and analyses into clear, concise, and actionable information for business partners. You will be adept at communicating financial insights to non-financial audiences, ensuring a shared understanding and facilitating informed decision-making at all levels.
- • This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to Twilio's mission of shaping the future of communications by ensuring that our R&D investments are strategically sound, financially responsible, and aligned with our growth objectives. You will be a key player in empowering millions of developers worldwide by supporting the innovation that fuels our products.
- • As part of a remote-first company, you will leverage technology and communication tools to build strong relationships with R&D leaders and finance colleagues, regardless of geographic location. Your ability to thrive in a distributed team environment will be essential.
- • You will contribute to a culture of financial accountability and strategic investment, helping R&D leaders make data-driven decisions that balance innovation with fiscal responsibility. This includes understanding the nuances of R&D spend and its direct impact on product development and market competitiveness.
- • The role demands a proactive approach to financial management, anticipating needs, identifying potential challenges, and developing solutions before they impact the business. You will be a trusted advisor to the R&D organization, providing critical financial insights that guide strategic direction and operational execution.
- • By analyzing trends in technology investments and vendor partnerships, you will help optimize resource allocation and identify areas for potential savings or reallocation to higher-impact projects. This strategic financial oversight is vital for maintaining Twilio's competitive edge in the fast-paced technology sector.
- • You will be involved in the budgeting process for R&D, working with teams to set realistic yet ambitious financial targets and ensuring adherence to approved budgets throughout the fiscal year. This includes managing the financial aspects of new product development cycles and ongoing research efforts.
- • The Senior Financial Analyst will also contribute to the broader FP&A team's initiatives, sharing best practices, and collaborating on company-wide financial planning and analysis efforts, further enhancing the financial acumen across the organization.

- • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, coupled with a meticulous attention to detail.
- • Demonstrated ability to work independently, drive initiatives, and provide data-driven insights to support strategic discussions.
- • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven track record of building cross-functional relationships and effectively communicating complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.
