  • • The Jackson Laboratory (JAX) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Financial Analyst to join its dynamic team, contributing to the financial health and strategic growth of JAX Mice and Clinical Research Services. This is a remote position, offering flexibility while demanding a high level of analytical rigor and operational insight. As a Senior Financial Analyst, you will be instrumental in driving informed decision-making by developing and maintaining robust financial and operational reports. Your primary focus will be on creating clear, actionable metrics that not only track performance but also guide strategic improvements and enhance overall outcomes for the supported business units.
  • • A core responsibility of this role involves leading the annual OPEX budgeting and monthly OPEX forecasting processes. You will be expected to develop comprehensive financial plans, utilizing clear and actionable metrics that are easily understood by non-financial stakeholders. This ensures alignment across departments and fosters a shared understanding of financial goals and performance. Your ability to translate complex financial data into accessible insights will be crucial for effective collaboration and strategic alignment.
  • • You will play a pivotal role in evaluating significant strategic expenditures and capital projects. This includes conducting thorough Return on Investment (ROI) analyses for initiatives such as CAPEX, R&D, and licensing opportunities. Post-approval, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to meticulously monitor project outcomes, ensuring that investments align with strategic objectives and deliver the expected financial and operational benefits. This proactive approach to financial oversight is key to maximizing JAX's resources.
  • • The Senior Financial Analyst will also be responsible for leading and supporting various ad hoc financial projects, reports, and strategic initiatives. This requires a flexible and adaptable mindset, with the ability to quickly pivot to address emerging business needs, conduct in-depth analyses, and provide critical financial guidance on a wide range of topics. Your contributions in these areas will directly impact JAX's ability to navigate complex financial landscapes and capitalize on new opportunities.
  • • A significant aspect of this role is communicating monthly performance insights to senior leadership. This involves presenting clear, concise, and actionable metrics that illuminate both financial performance and operational decision-making. Your ability to articulate the 'why' behind financial variances and trends will empower leaders to make timely and effective strategic adjustments.
  • • You will be expected to possess exceptional analytical acumen, enabling you to thoroughly investigate and explain the root causes of both financial and non-financial variances. This deep dive into performance drivers is essential for identifying areas of improvement and mitigating risks.
  • • A strong understanding of cost structures and the key drivers of operational and manufacturing expenses, including labor, materials, and outsourced/insourced services, is vital. This knowledge will inform your analysis and recommendations, ensuring they are grounded in operational realities.
  • • You must demonstrate a proven ability to translate operational goals into measurable financial and non-financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). Furthermore, you will collaborate effectively with operational teams to ensure these KPIs are not only measurable but also actionable, driving tangible improvements.
  • • Developing metric-driven financial models that support fast and flexible planning cycles is a key requirement. This includes creating models for annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and scenario simulations to assess the impact of proposed changes, thereby enhancing JAX's strategic agility.
  • • The ability to distinguish between leading and lagging indicators is crucial for driving proactive decision-making and anticipating future trends.
  • • You will be adept at transforming raw data into compelling narratives that inspire strategic action and gain buy-in from stakeholders at all levels.
  • • Presenting findings clearly and persuasively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders is a fundamental requirement, ensuring that insights are understood and acted upon.
  • • Advanced proficiency in data analysis and visualization tools, such as Excel and Power BI, is essential for extracting, relating, interpreting, and visualizing data from multiple systems to support comprehensive financial analysis and reporting.
  • • This role offers a competitive salary range of $85,987 - $143,962, commensurate with qualifications and relevant experience, providing an excellent opportunity to contribute to a leading biomedical research institution.
