• • Hauler Hero is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Frontend Engineer to join our team as a contractor. This is a pivotal, hands-on role where you will be a core individual contributor, responsible for the development of our cutting-edge web application. Your primary focus will be on crafting high-quality, production-grade user interfaces that are essential for the daily operations of haulers and operators in the field. You will be instrumental in translating complex designs into functional, performant, and user-friendly interfaces, working collaboratively with Product, Design, and Backend Engineering teams to deliver features rapidly while upholding the highest standards of quality, performance, and usability.
• • This position demands a strong sense of ownership, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to thrive independently within a remote work environment. You will be empowered to take features from conception through to deployment and iteration, ensuring a seamless user experience.
• • **AI-First Engineering Approach:** Hauler Hero is at the forefront of building an AI-assisted engineering organization. AI tools are not just an option; they are an integral part of our daily workflow. This means you will be actively using tools such as Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, and GitHub Copilot to enhance your development process. Your responsibilities will include AI-assisted implementation, refactoring code, generating tests, and creating boilerplate code. Your expertise will be focused on architectural decisions, user experience (UX) design choices, identifying and handling edge cases, and ensuring overall quality. A critical aspect of this role is the 'trust-but-verify' mindset when reviewing all AI-generated output, ensuring you fully understand the code being produced.
• • This role is ideally suited for engineers who embrace AI-assisted development and are adept at leveraging AI tools while maintaining a deep understanding of the underlying code. It is not a fit for individuals resistant to AI integration or those who rely on AI output without critical evaluation.
• • **Key Responsibilities:**
• • **Build & Ship:** Implement pixel-accurate, responsive user interfaces from Figma designs utilizing React, TypeScript, and Material-UI (MUI). You will own the entire lifecycle of features, from initial design handoff through implementation, rigorous testing, successful deployment, and subsequent iteration based on user feedback.
• • Develop complex, validated forms using React Hook Form, ensuring data integrity and a smooth user input experience.
• • Prioritize and ensure a mobile-first UX, with a specific focus on tablet-first workflows crucial for field operators.
• • **Quality & Craft:** Take full ownership of frontend testing strategies, encompassing unit, integration, and end-to-end (e2e) layers, leveraging tools like Jest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or Playwright.
• • Champion and drive frontend quality standards and best practices across the team.
• • Optimize application performance, focusing on critical metrics such as bundle size, render performance, and Core Web Vitals to ensure a fast and responsive user experience.
• • Extend and customize Material-UI components using advanced CSS techniques, including Flexbox, Grid, and CSS variables, to achieve precise design implementations.
• • **Collaborate & Iterate:** Work closely and effectively with Product Managers, Designers, and Backend Engineers to deliver cohesive and high-impact features.
• • Actively participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and mentoring junior engineers to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
• • Ship Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) efficiently and iterate rapidly based on direct customer feedback and usage data.
• • Communicate effectively in an asynchronous-first environment, utilizing tools like Slack, Notion, and Loom for clear and concise updates and discussions.
• • **Shape the Platform:** Contribute to defining robust component patterns and the overall frontend architecture.
• • Influence and actively support the ongoing transition from JavaScript to TypeScript, enhancing code maintainability and developer productivity.
• • Identify and pragmatically address technical debt to ensure the long-term health and scalability of the codebase.
• • **What Success Looks Like:** Consistently shipping high-quality UI features that meet user needs and business objectives. Contributing to a clean, scalable, and maintainable frontend architecture. Ensuring strong test coverage and predictable release cycles.
