📋 Description

  • As a Senior Frontend Engineer on the Product Platform Supergroup (SG), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of Canva's design experience by developing the core shared frontend frameworks, component libraries, and essential developer tooling that underpin all of Canva's product surfaces.
  • This is a high-leverage position where your contributions will directly impact hundreds of engineers across the organization and billions of user interactions globally, ensuring consistency, speed, and reliability in every Canva product.
  • You will be instrumental in building and refining the shared frontend foundations that empower product teams to deliver exceptional user experiences efficiently and at scale.
  • A significant part of your role will involve developing and maintaining robust, reusable frontend frameworks and component libraries that serve as the building blocks for all Canva applications, ensuring a cohesive and high-quality user interface across the platform.
  • You will architect and implement tools and infrastructure designed to streamline development workflows, enhance code quality, and accelerate the delivery of new features and improvements.
  • Proactively identify, diagnose, and resolve complex frontend performance bottlenecks and scalability challenges, ensuring Canva's applications remain fast, responsive, and capable of handling massive user growth.
  • Collaborate closely with the Design System team and various Product teams to guarantee that all frontend components and experiences adhere to the highest standards of accessibility, visual consistency, and functional reliability.
  • Take ownership of technical design discussions, championing frontend best practices, architectural patterns, and emerging technologies to elevate the overall quality and maintainability of Canva's frontend codebase.
  • Act as a technical leader and mentor for other engineers, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement within Canva's frontend community of practice, sharing knowledge, and guiding junior team members.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the Product Platform SG, helping to define the roadmap for frontend development and tooling that will enable Canva's continued rapid growth and innovation.

🎯 Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience in developing large-scale, complex frontend applications.
  • Deep expertise in core frontend technologies: JavaScript (ES6+), React, and TypeScript.
  • Strong proficiency with modern frontend build tools and bundlers such as Webpack, Vite, or similar.
  • Solid understanding of frontend architecture patterns, performance optimization techniques, and web accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Proven experience in building and maintaining shared frontend frameworks, component libraries, or developer tooling.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with a demonstrated ability to partner effectively across different disciplines (e.g., Product, Design, Engineering).
  • Solid grasp of data structures, algorithms, and their performance implications within browser environments.
  • Bonus: Interest or experience in integrating AI capabilities into user experiences, such as generative design features, intelligent UI assistance, or adaptive UX systems.
