Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of our customer-facing mobile and web applications that control and monitor next-generation desalination units in the field.
- • Architect and maintain a secure, scalable cloud pipeline that ingests high-frequency sensor data (temperature, pressure, salinity, flow rates) from hundreds of distributed devices, enabling real-time analytics and predictive maintenance.
- • Build rock-solid Bluetooth communication layers between iOS/Android apps and embedded hardware, ensuring seamless pairing, encrypted data exchange, and graceful offline/online transitions in low-connectivity environments.
- • Ship production-grade React Native and Flutter apps to both App Store and Google Play, iterating rapidly on user feedback from plant operators, field technicians, and enterprise customers across three continents.
- • Design and implement over-the-air (OTA) update mechanisms that push new firmware and feature releases to edge devices without interrupting critical water production—zero-downtime deployments are a must when communities depend on you for drinking water.
- • Create internal dashboards and admin portals (Node.js, React, Python) that give our hardware, test, and customer-success teams real-time visibility into fleet health, manufacturing yield, and customer KPIs.
- • Collaborate daily with mechanical, chemical, and electrical engineers to translate complex desalination physics into intuitive user experiences—expect whiteboard sessions on membrane fouling algorithms followed by sprint planning on feature flags.
- • Establish foundational DevOps practices: containerized microservices on AWS/GCP, CI/CD with GitHub Actions, infrastructure-as-code with Terraform, and robust monitoring via Datadog or Grafana so we catch anomalies before a village runs dry.
- • Champion code quality through automated testing (unit, integration, E2E), peer reviews, and documentation that allows new engineers to onboard in days, not weeks.
- • Influence product roadmap by translating field data into actionable insights—your telemetry might reveal that a 2 % increase in recovery rate saves 500 k gallons per day, directly shaping the next hardware revision.
- • Mentor junior developers and interns, fostering a culture of experimentation, psychological safety, and relentless focus on impact.
- • Participate in occasional field deployments—from coastal California pilot sites to remote Caribbean communities—gathering first-hand user feedback and ensuring software performs under sun, salt, and spotty cellular coverage.
- • Contribute to open-source projects and publish technical blogs that position Vital Lyfe as a thought leader in climate tech and IoT for social good.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years shipping production mobile (iOS & Android) and web applications, with at least one React Native or Flutter app live in the stores.
- • Demonstrated experience designing and integrating Bluetooth LE communication stacks between mobile apps and embedded devices.
- • Strong backend fundamentals: Node.js, Python, or Java; RESTful and GraphQL APIs; PostgreSQL or similar relational databases; cloud-native architecture on AWS or GCP.
- • Proven ability to build for reliability in low-connectivity or offline environments—caching, queuing, conflict resolution, and graceful degradation.
- • Nice-to-have: cellular IoT (LTE-M, NB-IoT), OTA pipelines, embedded C/C++ or RTOS exposure, MRP/ERP integration, DevOps/IaC expertise.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Mission-driven equity: generous stock options in a high-growth climate-tech startup poised to secure safe water for millions.
- • Flexible hybrid schedule: work from our sunny Los Angeles HQ or remotely, with quarterly off-sites in coastal locations where our tech is deployed.
- • Full platinum health, dental, and vision coverage for you and dependents, plus annual wellness stipend for surf lessons, gym memberships, or meditation apps.
- • Annual $3 k learning budget for conferences, courses, or certifications—whether you want to master Rust or dive deep into desalination chemistry.
- • 20 days PTO plus 10 company holidays and one paid volunteer day each quarter to support water-focused NGOs.
