- • Senior Full Stack Engineer role in the AI Lab at The Economist Group, focused on building AI-powered user experiences for journalism products.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include building interactive prototypes for LLM capabilities in web and mobile, implementing voice interactions, collaborating with design to turn Figma flows into working code, integrating AI services (LLM, STT/TTS) with frontend experiences, contributing to React/Next.js frontend components, and working with Python-based AI infrastructure.
- • The AI Lab is a small, fast-moving innovation unit within The Economist Group, working to reimagine journalism for an AI-driven world. You’ll be one of the first three engineers, collaborating closely with Tech, Design, and Product Leads, and working as part of a globally distributed team with colleagues in the UK and Europe.
- • In this role, you’ll ship zero-to-one products that directly impact how millions of readers interact with journalism, gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge GenAI and multimodal interfaces, deepen your full-stack expertise in AI-integrated systems, and help shape the future of media innovation.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of experience in frontend or full-stack development with strong UX intuition
- • Fluency in React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript, ideally with Next.js
- • Strong working knowledge of browser audio APIs and voice interaction libraries (e.g., Web Speech API, MediaRecorder, Web Audio, or integrations with ElevenLabs/HeyGen)
- • Experience working closely with product and design teams to prototype and iterate on user-facing features
- • Comfortable collaborating across frontend/backend boundaries, including creating lightweight API routes or integrating with LLM endpoints
- • Ability to run, test, and contribute to Python scripts for AI workflows (e.g., model calls, audio processing, STT/TTS)
