📋 Description

• • Embark on a mission to shape the future of space access as a Senior Ground Fluid Systems Engineer at Isar Aerospace. You will be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing the critical ground fluid infrastructure that underpins the safe, reliable, and rapid testing and launch operations of our cutting-edge Spectrum rocket. This role is pivotal, as you will be responsible for the terrestrial half of the rocket's journey, ensuring that everything from intricate test-rigs for propulsion system development and qualification to the comprehensive launch bases themselves are engineered to perfection.
• • Collaborate closely with our Propulsion and Launch Vehicle development teams, acting as a bridge between their ambitious requirements and the tangible, functional designs and operational concepts that bring them to life. You will dive deep into complex engineering challenges, navigating the entire project lifecycle from initial concept ideation and detailed design through to execution, meticulous commissioning, and the final handover to site owners and operators.
• • Your core responsibilities will encompass the comprehensive design of fluid systems tailored for both test and launch facilities. This includes, but is not limited to, sophisticated rocket engine test-rigs, robust structure pressurization test-rigs, integrated stage testing rigs, and the foundational elements of launch pads.
• • You will perform rigorous sizing calculations and sophisticated numerical simulations for a wide array of fluid systems. This includes the critical handling of cryogenic propellants for storage, conditioning, and distribution, as well as the precise management of high-pressure gas distribution and pressurization systems essential for launch operations.
• • A key aspect of your role will involve the selection and procurement of appropriate fluid hardware. This requires a deep understanding of components such as tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, pressure regulators, safety valves, and instrumentation, ensuring that only the highest quality and most suitable equipment is chosen.
• • You will be responsible for preparing comprehensive technical documentation. This includes the creation of Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), detailed hardware lists, precise datasheets, and insightful technical notes, all of which serve as the essential foundation for manufacturing planning and successful execution.
• • Take a leading role in system design reviews and risk assessments, ensuring that all fluid systems meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying potential issues and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
• • Serve as the primary technical point of contact and subject matter expert for project and operations teams. You will provide expert consultation on all fluid system-related questions and decisions, guiding teams towards optimal solutions.
• • Play a vital role in mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, fostering their growth and development. You will contribute significantly to structuring and expanding the team's collective knowledge base through the development of guidelines, checklists, processes, and informative presentations.
• • Depending on your specific interests and accumulated experience, you may also have the opportunity to lead or support factory and site acceptance tests for fluid systems, take the lead in commissioning planning and hands-on site operations, or provide crucial support during test and launch campaigns, either on-site or remotely, through operational insights or data analysis.
