- • As a Senior/Lead Software Data Engineer on Mapbox’s Roads Team, you will directly contribute to building and scaling the global road network data that powers navigation, mapping, and location-based experiences for millions of users and developers worldwide. Your work ensures the accuracy, performance, and reliability of foundational geospatial data used in everything from consumer apps to enterprise logistics systems.
- • You will take ownership of existing data processing pipelines, improving their scalability, reliability, and efficiency while designing and implementing new pipelines to ingest, transform, and validate massive geospatial datasets from diverse sources including satellite imagery, probe data, and open street maps.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities include collecting and monitoring key performance metrics (throughput, latency, data quality) to optimize pipeline health, implementing security best practices in data handling and access controls, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with product goals for HD maps and real-time navigation.
- • You will engage in technical discussions around architecture, data modeling, and workflow orchestration, advocating for innovative solutions while justifying decisions with data-driven analysis and clear documentation.

🎯 Requirements
- • Good knowledge of at least one programming language: C++, Python, Scala, or Java
- • Experience with AWS services (S3, EC2, IAM, EMR, Glue, Athena, Kinesis) or equivalent cloud platforms
- • Comfortable with SQL and understanding of SQL engine fundamentals
- • Proficient understanding of distributed computing principles
- • Experience with at least one workflow management tool (Airflow, Oozie, or Luigi)
- • Strong analytical thinking and ability to justify technical decisions with data
- • Excellent written and spoken English communication skills
