đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Senior Legal Counsel at RightCard Payments Limited (operating as LemFi), you will be instrumental in shaping and executing the company's global legal, regulatory, and expansion strategies. This role is pivotal in enabling LemFi's mission to build the premier financial app for the Global South, empowering immigrants to stay connected to home, achieve financial stability, and build wealth across borders.
  • • You will serve as the primary legal advisor for our operations across Europe and African markets, ensuring compliance and fostering confidence as the company undergoes rapid scaling. This is a dynamic, high-impact position that moves beyond traditional legal support, placing you at the forefront of strategic growth initiatives.
  • • A key responsibility will be spearheading inorganic growth through Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) and strategic transactions. This involves leading comprehensive legal due diligence, structuring complex deals, and overseeing the execution of international acquisitions and joint ventures. You will be crucial in ensuring the seamless post-merger integration of legal frameworks and regulatory licenses.
  • • You will act as the legal architect for licensing applications, collaborating closely with general managers and navigating interactions with government officials. This includes managing all necessary paperwork and providing expert guidance to secure the required licenses for expansion into new territories.
  • • A significant part of your role will involve navigating and managing intricate regulatory frameworks, including Electronic Money Institution (EMI), Payment Institution (PI), and Banking licenses, across diverse jurisdictions. Your proactive approach will ensure our license portfolio aligns with and supports LemFi's long-term strategic roadmap.
  • • You will provide expert counsel on a wide range of FinTech operations, privacy laws such as GDPR and NDPR, and international corporate matters. This requires acting as an effective bridge between the technical requirements of our product teams and the legal constraints and obligations of the company.
  • • Strengthening our privacy and data protection posture is paramount. You will develop and enforce robust strategies for cross-border data transfers and consent mechanisms, ensuring the security and integrity of user data as LemFi expands its reach across continents.
  • • You will lead the drafting and negotiation of high-stakes contracts, including critical partnership agreements and vendor contracts that form the backbone of our product infrastructure and global expansion efforts. Your negotiation skills will be key to securing favorable terms and mitigating risks.
  • • Proactive risk assessment for new market entries is a core function. You will evaluate the political and regulatory stability of target regions, providing strategic insights to inform expansion decisions and identify potential challenges.
  • • This role demands a growth-oriented mindset, where you are driven to find creative, compliant solutions to business opportunities, embodying a 'how can we do it?' rather than a 'no we cannot' attitude.
  • • You will possess a strong transactional mindset, capable of managing the fast-paced intensity inherent in M&A deals and high-pressure product launches.
  • • The ideal candidate will be both strategic and detail-oriented, able to conceptualize the long-term global strategy while meticulously identifying compliance loopholes in complex regulatory filings.
  • • You will excel as a cross-functional partner, fluent in communicating effectively with Product Managers, Engineers, and Regulators, ensuring alignment and smooth collaboration across diverse teams.
  • • Your contributions will directly impact LemFi's ability to scale rapidly, enter new markets, and launch innovative financial products, ultimately serving millions of users and fulfilling our mission of financial inclusion.

🎯 Requirements

  • • A Juris Doctor (JD), LLM, or equivalent law degree from a reputable institution.
  • • At least 7 years of legal experience, ideally a combination of experience at a top-tier law firm and in-house legal departments, with significant exposure to FinTech, M&A, and regulatory matters.
  • • Proven experience in managing international corporate transactions and navigating regulatory bodies within Europe and Africa.
  • • Experience working directly with product teams to launch regulated financial services, such as cards, lending, or cross-border payments.
  • • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills with a strong focus on achieving commercial outcomes.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Competitive salary and equity package.
  • • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • • Generous paid time off and holidays.
  • • Opportunities for professional development and continuous learning.
  • • Remote work flexibility, allowing you to work from anywhere.
  • • The chance to make a significant impact on the lives of millions by building essential financial tools for the global diaspora.
