- • Jimdo is seeking a highly experienced Senior Legal Counsel with a specialization in Financial Products and Artificial Intelligence to join our dynamic, remote-first team in Germany. This pivotal role offers the unique opportunity to be deeply integrated into product development, acting as a strategic advisor to Product, Engineering, AI, Marketing, and Operations teams. You will be instrumental in shaping the legal framework for our innovative platform, which empowers solopreneurs and small businesses to thrive online. As a key member of our Legal team, reporting directly to the General Counsel, you will not be a distant advisor but a collaborative partner, sitting at the table as products are conceived, launched, and scaled.
- • In this senior capacity, you will be the go-to expert for complex legal challenges, translating intricate regulatory landscapes into clear, actionable guidance that enables our non-legal teams to move forward with confidence. Your responsibilities will span the entire product lifecycle, from initial concept and design through to marketing and post-launch iteration. This includes providing comprehensive legal counsel on SaaS product development, AI governance, payment regulations, and ensuring business continuity. You will be adept at structuring strategic options, identifying potential risks, and recommending pragmatic, forward-thinking solutions.
- • A significant aspect of this role involves developing and embedding robust legal standards, playbooks, and decision-making frameworks directly into our product development processes. You will be responsible for creating reusable legal templates and automation tools that streamline legal reviews and approvals, ensuring efficiency and consistency across the organization. Your proactive approach will involve anticipating legal needs and building scalable solutions that support Jimdo's growth and innovation.
- • You will take the lead on financial products, navigating the complexities of payment regulations such as the Payment Services Directive (PSD2), Anti-Money Laundering (AML) requirements, and the interplay between payments, invoicing, and taxation. This includes negotiating and finalizing contracts with Payment Service Providers (PSPs) and other strategic partners, ensuring favorable terms and compliance with all relevant laws.
- • The role also demands a deep understanding of data protection and privacy laws, particularly in the context of product development and international data transfers. You will advise on compliance with GDPR and other global privacy regulations, ensuring our products and internal processes meet the highest standards of data security and user privacy.
- • Furthermore, you will be at the forefront of advising on the legal and ethical implications of Artificial Intelligence. This includes developing and refining standards and guidelines for the responsible use of AI in both our products and internal workflows. You will assess AI-related legal risks, implement governance frameworks, and ensure our AI initiatives comply with emerging regulations like the EU AI Act.
- • Your advisory duties extend to marketing and customer-facing communications. You will review marketing materials, social media content, and customer service responses to ensure legal compliance and mitigate reputational risks. You will also provide strategic counsel to management on risk allocation, business strategies, and policy development, offering clear assessments of opportunities and potential downsides.
- • Collaboration with the Security team on implementing an Information Security Management System (ISMS), such as ISO 27001, will be crucial. You will provide legal and privacy perspectives on control measures, documentation requirements, and data protection aspects, ensuring a holistic approach to security and compliance.
- • This role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, product-led environment, possesses strong ownership, and can effectively manage a high volume of work while juggling multiple priorities. You will be a trusted advisor, building strong relationships across departments and fostering a culture of collaboration and compliance. Your ability to see the bigger picture and understand the broader implications of legal decisions will be highly valued.
- • You will also contribute to the continuous evolution of our Terms of Service (ToS) as new features or business models are introduced. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring our legal documentation remains current, comprehensive, and aligned with our business objectives. This role is an exceptional opportunity to make a significant impact on a growing, mission-driven company at the intersection of technology, finance, and AI.
