📋 Description

• Own the end-to-end design, development, and deployment of AI-powered search and discovery products that directly influence how 2.2 billion daily requests surface the right content for 25 % of global internet users. You will be the technical anchor for a squad that turns petabytes of behavioral signals into lightning-fast, highly-relevant search experiences.
• Architect and implement both streaming and batch data pipelines (Spark, Kafka, Airflow) that ingest and transform 100 TB of historical behavioral data into real-time, low-latency features for training and inference. Your pipelines will power everything from click-through-rate prediction to semantic query understanding, ensuring that every millisecond of latency saved translates into measurable revenue.
• Build, tune, and productionize state-of-the-art NLP and Information Retrieval models—transformers, embedding models, vector search, LLMs, RAG, and agentic systems—to lift core product discovery KPIs such as CTR, conversion rate, and revenue per search. You will decide when to fine-tune a 7-billion-parameter LLM versus distill it into a lean embedding service, balancing cost, latency, and accuracy.
• Write clean, scalable, production-ready code in Python, Java, or Go; containerize services with Docker; orchestrate them on Kubernetes; and automate releases via CI/CD pipelines, blue-green deployments, and feature toggles on AWS or GCP. Expect to push code to production multiple times a week while maintaining 99.99 % availability for clients whose businesses depend on your search stack.
• Establish rigorous A/B testing frameworks, monitor online experiments, and iterate rapidly to translate statistically significant gains into tangible business impact for Fortune 500 clients like Samsung, Nike, and IKEA. You will design experiments that detect 0.5 % lifts in revenue at global scale and present findings to C-level stakeholders in concise, data-driven narratives.
• Ensure system resilience, observability, and cost-efficiency by designing for horizontal scaling, implementing distributed tracing, metrics, alerting, and SLOs that guarantee sub-100 ms search latency at global scale. You will own on-call rotations, post-mortems, and capacity planning sessions that keep our infrastructure ahead of traffic spikes during Black-Friday-level events.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with product managers, data scientists, designers, and customer success teams in agile squads to translate ambiguous business ideas into concrete technical roadmaps and deliverables. You will run discovery workshops, estimate epics, and negotiate scope to ship an MVP in six weeks and a fully-scaled solution in three months.
• Mentor junior engineers through pair programming, design reviews, and brown-bag sessions; champion best practices in MLOps, code quality, and ethical AI across the 1,500-person, 50-nationality Insider One engineering community. Your pull-request comments will become internal lore, and your tech talks will be recorded for onboarding future cohorts.
• Continuously research emerging academic and industry advances in search, recommendations, and generative AI; prototype bleeding-edge techniques and shepherd the most promising ones into production within quarterly OKR cycles. You will attend NeurIPS, SIGIR, and KDD, then distill the best papers into production-ready features before competitors even finish reading the abstracts.
• Contribute to the technical strategy and long-term vision of the Search platform, influencing decisions on data architecture, model governance, privacy compliance, and multi-tenant SaaS scalability that affect millions of end-users worldwide. You will sit at the intersection of engineering, product, and executive leadership to define what “next-generation search” looks like for the next decade.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of production-grade experience building and deploying large-scale search, recommendation, or NLP systems serving >100 M requests/day.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python, Java, or Go, plus hands-on experience with distributed data frameworks (Spark, Flink, Kafka) and cloud-native MLOps (Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform).
• Deep theoretical and practical knowledge of modern IR and NLP techniques: dense/sparse retrieval, transformer fine-tuning, vector databases, LLM prompting, and evaluation metrics (nDCG, MAP, recall@k).
• Demonstrated ability to design and run statistically rigorous online experiments, interpret results, and iterate based on business KPIs.
• Nice-to-have: PhD or MS in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field; contributions to open-source search/NLP projects; experience with multilingual or cross-lingual search; familiarity with privacy-preserving ML and GDPR compliance.
