  • • Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team responsible for Vultr’s global cloud storage portfolio, including block, object, and file storage services across all performance tiers: Archival, Standard, and Accelerated.
  • • Own end-to-end technical delivery of storage products, from architecture design to deployment, monitoring, and operational excellence across 32 global data center locations.
  • • Drive architecture decisions for multi-tenant, multi-tier storage platforms supporting diverse workloads, from everyday enterprise applications to high-throughput AI training and inference pipelines.
  • • Ensure five-nines availability, durability, and performance SLAs for all storage services, with accountability for system reliability and data integrity at global scale.
  • • Integrate and operationalize third-party enterprise storage solutions such as DDN, VAST, Weka, and NetApp to enhance platform capabilities and meet specialized workload demands.
  • • Optimize storage infrastructure for extreme throughput and low-latency requirements in AI and HPC environments, implementing performance tuning techniques tailored to these workloads.
  • • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, infrastructure, and customer success teams to define storage feature roadmaps, service levels, and customer-facing SLAs.
  • • Manage capacity planning, cost optimization, and vendor relationships across the entire storage stack, balancing performance, scalability, and economic efficiency.
  • • Implement and maintain operational best practices for storage systems, including automation, incident response, disaster recovery, and observability across distributed environments.
  • • Mentor and develop storage engineers and operators, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team.
  • • Evaluate emerging storage technologies and industry trends to inform strategic investments and ensure Vultr’s storage offerings remain competitive and future-ready.
  • • Oversee documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge transfer to ensure team scalability and resilience across global time zones.
  • • Represent the storage engineering team in cross-organizational initiatives, including budget planning, technical reviews, and executive communications on storage system health and roadmap progress.
  • • Ensure compliance with internal and external security, privacy, and data governance standards across all storage systems and data handling practices.
  • • Monitor and respond to performance anomalies, capacity constraints, and service degradation events, leading root cause analysis and preventive actions.
  • • Align storage engineering priorities with company-wide goals, including rapid global expansion, cost efficiency, and support for AI innovation.
  • • Contribute to incident post-mortems and system improvements to reduce recurrence and enhance system resilience.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 7+ years of experience in storage engineering, with 3+ years in engineering management
  • • Deep expertise with Ceph and distributed storage architectures in production environments
  • • Experience building and operating multi-tenant cloud storage services at scale
  • • Strong understanding of block, object, and file storage protocols and performance characteristics
  • • Experience with third-party enterprise storage platforms (DDN, VAST, Weka, NetApp) is a strong plus
  • • Knowledge of high-performance storage optimization techniques for AI and HPC workloads is a plus
