- • Senior Manager, Customs and Trade Operations leads OpenAI’s global import customs strategy and operating model, shaping how the company integrates customs, tariff, and cross-border considerations into hardware sourcing, development, and global operations.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include refining import customs strategy, owning governance for HTS classification and customs valuation, partnering with Engineering and Finance on landed-cost models, leading broker strategy, building scalable documentation and SOPs, and establishing AI-enabled workflows to streamline policy-heavy import processes.
- • The Tax and Trade team at OpenAI embeds critical trade and tax considerations into business strategy across procurement, hardware operations, logistics, finance, and legal, using governed AI and automation to make regulated work more efficient and scalable.
- • In this role, you will build scalable systems, influence cross-functional decision-making, gain deep exposure to high-tech global trade operations, and develop expertise in applying AI to complex regulatory workflows while supporting OpenAI’s mission of safe and beneficial AI deployment.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in international trade operations, trade law, or cross-border ecommerce
- • Significant experience leading import customs, trade operations, or related functions in electronics, semiconductors, robotics, advanced hardware, manufacturing, or high-technology domains
- • Deep expertise in trade law including import classification, customs valuation, country of origin, prototype and temporary-import frameworks, broker management, and customs documentation controls
- • Experience building AI-enabled workflows, internal tools, knowledge systems, or agentic processes for policy-heavy or operational work
- • Strong writing and communication skills with ability to translate complex customs requirements into clear process documentation and practical guidance
