đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Senior People Partner at Docker, you will be an integral part of our remote-first, globally distributed team, acting as a strategic advisor and coach to leaders within our dynamic Engineering and Security organizations. Your primary mission will be to support the scaling of these critical teams and to continuously strengthen our unique culture as the business experiences rapid growth. You will be instrumental in translating complex business and organizational needs into actionable, practical people strategies that encompass talent acquisition and development, performance management, employee engagement, and employee relations. This role demands a proactive and insightful approach, working in close partnership with the broader People team to ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality HR programs and robust leader support.
  • • In this strategic partnership capacity, you will serve as a trusted advisor to Engineering and Security leadership, offering expert guidance on organizational design, proactive workforce planning, the establishment of effective operating rhythms, and overall team effectiveness. A key responsibility will be to diagnose the health of the organization by analyzing structure, spans and layers, talent distribution, and engagement signals, subsequently recommending clear, data-informed actions. You will be a vital partner to leaders navigating periods of significant change, including reorganizations, leadership transitions, and critical scaling moments, ensuring a smooth and effective transition.
  • • Your role will extend to leader coaching and fostering manager excellence. You will coach leaders and managers across multiple levels, focusing on critical areas such as performance management, constructive feedback, accountability, and the cultivation of a positive team culture. A significant part of this will involve building manager capability through the development and deployment of toolkits, targeted training sessions, and real-time guidance, with a particular emphasis on supporting new managers and those leading fast-growing teams. You will also play a key role in supporting succession planning, talent reviews, and crucial readiness conversations for identifying and developing talent for critical roles.
  • • In talent management and performance, you will lead the end-to-end performance processes for your designated client groups. This includes facilitating calibration sessions, managing promotion processes, supporting development planning, and guiding performance improvement plans. You will collaborate closely with leaders to define clear expectations for high performance within technical organizations, ensuring well-defined role scopes, clear career paths for both individual contributors and managers, and consistent leveling conversations. Identifying retention risks and development opportunities will be paramount, and you will drive practical, impactful plans to address these.
  • • Employee relations and risk management are core components of this role. You will independently manage complex employee relations concerns with a high degree of sound judgment, empathy, and consistency. Partnering closely with Legal and the People team, you will contribute to investigations, performance actions, and policy interpretation, ensuring strict compliance with US employment practices. A particular emphasis will be placed on bringing an extra layer of discretion and care when supporting Security teams and other sensitive business areas, ensuring confidentiality and trust.
  • • Championing engagement, inclusion, and culture is essential. You will actively promote inclusive leadership and equitable people practices across the Engineering and Security departments. Translating engagement survey data, attrition trends, and sentiment analysis into concrete action plans with leaders will be a key responsibility, followed by driving follow-through and measuring tangible improvements. You will also focus on strengthening connection and belonging within our distributed and remote teams.
  • • Data-driven decision-making will underpin your approach. You will leverage HR metrics and insights to identify trends, influence strategic decisions, and evaluate the impact of people initiatives, including headcount, attrition, performance distribution, internal mobility, and engagement scores. The ability to share clear, leader-ready narratives derived from this data, rather than just presenting raw dashboards, will be crucial.
  • • Finally, cross-functional partnership is vital for success. You will collaborate closely with Talent Acquisition on hiring plans and candidate strategies for technical roles. You will work with Total Rewards, People Operations, and Learning & Development to ensure that programs are tailored to the specific realities and needs of Engineering and Security. Furthermore, you will contribute to broader People Team initiatives, playbooks, and scaling improvements that extend beyond your immediate client groups, helping to build a more robust and effective People function overall.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 7+ years of progressive HRBP/People Partner experience, with significant experience supporting Engineering and/or Security organizations (or similarly technical, product-focused groups).
  • • Strong working knowledge of US employment practices and employee relations, with demonstrated comfort navigating ambiguity and sensitive issues.
  • • Proven experience supporting global, distributed teams, with a particular strength in partnering across US and EMEA regions (understanding leaders, employment practices, and cultural nuances).
  • • Demonstrated expertise in organizational design, workforce planning, talent reviews, and coaching leaders through performance and change management.
  • • Data fluency: ability to use metrics to tell a story, inform decisions, and drive measurable action (proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets is required).
  • • Clear, confident communicator capable of influencing senior leaders and building trust rapidly.
  • • High integrity, strong judgment, and consistent follow-through in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Freedom & flexibility: Work arrangements designed to fit your life.
  • • Designated quarterly Whaleness Days plus an end-of-year Whaleness break for rest and rejuvenation.
  • • Home office setup stipend to ensure a comfortable and productive work environment.
  • • 16 weeks of paid Parental leave to support new parents.
  • • Technology stipend equivalent to $100 net per month for essential tools and services.
  • • Generous PTO plan encouraging you to take time for personal enjoyment and well-being.
  • • Training stipend for professional development, including conferences, courses, and classes.
  • • Equity participation: As a growing startup, all employees share in the company's success.
  • • Docker Swag to foster team spirit and company pride.
  • • Comprehensive medical benefits, retirement plans, and holidays (country-specific variations apply).
  • • Remote-first culture, fostering a flexible and connected work environment.
