Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Architect and deliver the next generation of secure, automated infrastructure that underpins national defense and intelligence missions. You will author reusable Puppet modules, Helm charts, and Terraform blueprints that are consumed by dozens of downstream engineering squads, ensuring every deployment is consistent, compliant, and combat-ready.
  • • Own the full lifecycle of platform code—from requirements gathering with mission stakeholders, through iterative development in GitHub, to automated testing in ephemeral Kubernetes clusters, and finally to signed, SBOM-attested artifacts delivered via secure CI/CD pipelines.
  • • Design self-service tooling that lets application teams provision entire enclaves (network, storage, secrets, monitoring) in minutes instead of weeks. Your code becomes the force multiplier that accelerates every other team on the program.
  • • Embed security and compliance as code: write OPA policies, CIS hardening scripts, and STIG automation so that every environment is accredited before it is even spun up. Work directly with ISSOs and AO’s to translate controls into executable guardrails.
  • • Optimize for zero-downtime, blue-green, and canary deployments across hybrid cloud (AWS, Azure, on-prem bare metal) and edge devices. You will tune Helm charts for 100 ms startup times and craft Puppet modules that configure classified networks without human touch.
  • • Instrument everything—Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry—so anomalies are surfaced before they become incidents. Build runbooks-as-code that auto-remediate common failure modes and page the right on-call engineer when human judgment is required.
  • • Mentor junior developers and customer DevOps teams through pair programming, architecture reviews, and lunch-and-learn sessions. Your documentation (ADR’s, README’s, and video walkthroughs) becomes the canonical reference for how to extend and operate the platform.
  • • Participate in sprint planning, backlog grooming, and quarterly OKR setting. You will translate vague mission needs (“make the data plane faster”) into measurable epics (“reduce P99 sensor-to-shooter latency from 800 ms to 200 ms by Q3”).
  • • Travel up to 10% to customer sites in San Diego, Arlington, Colorado Springs, or Tampa for integration events, security reviews, and live-fire exercises. Your presence ensures that the code you wrote performs flawlessly under real-world battlefield conditions.
  • • Champion an open-source-first mindset: upstream generic modules to the Raft GitHub org, contribute patches to Puppet, Helm, and Kubernetes, and represent the company at community meetups and DoD DevOps Days.
  • • Continuously refactor and modernize legacy automation (Bash, Make, manual runbooks) into declarative, testable code. Measure success by the reduction in mean time to provision (MTTP) and the increase in deployment frequency without corresponding increase in failure rate.
  • • Collaborate with Raft’s AI teams to embed agentic workflows into the platform—think self-healing clusters that use LLM-driven diagnostics to predict and prevent outages before they occur.

🎯 Requirements

  • • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a DoD security clearance
  • • 5+ years writing infrastructure-as-code (Puppet, Helm, Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent)
  • • Expert-level Linux systems knowledge (RHEL, Ubuntu, or Rocky) and hardening experience (STIG, CIS)
  • • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Go, Python, or Ruby) for tooling and testing
  • • Hands-on experience with Kubernetes operators, CRDs, and GitOps workflows (Argo CD or Flux)
  • • Nice-to-have: prior work on defense or intelligence programs, familiarity with DISA Cloud SRG, or contributions to CNCF projects

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Fully remote-first culture with quarterly in-person summits in top-tier locations
  • • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision for you and 80% for dependents
  • • 20 days PTO plus 11 federal holidays and a week-long winter shutdown
  • • Annual $3,000 professional development stipend (conferences, certifications, courses)
  • • Equity in Raft via stock options with a 4-year vesting schedule and 1-year cliff
