Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Senior Platform Engineer at Loancrate: Build the foundational infrastructure and developer tooling that enables product teams to ship features rapidly, reliably, and securely — directly impacting the company’s mission to automate mortgage origination and save lenders over $16B annually in operating expenses.
- • What the person will do day to day:
- • Design and evolve AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Pulumi Cloud, treating infrastructure as a product that engineering teams depend on for safe, frequent deployments.
- • Build and maintain self-serve developer experiences including local dev tooling, templates, golden paths, and CI-integrated workflows that make "the right thing" the easy thing for engineers.
- • Pioneer tooling and best practices for AI-first software engineering, including background agents for autonomous code changes and frameworks enabling AI product experiences to self-optimize based on user interactions.
- • Extend internal TypeScript platform libraries — from schema/code generation to data access and instrumentation — to standardize how teams build and ship features with safer, more consistent primitives.
- • Make Loancrate’s platform observable and self-healing by instrumenting services with Datadog, building meaningful alerting, reducing incident blast radius, and implementing SLOs and auto-scaling.
- • Bake security into platform defaults across IAM, secrets management, encryption, audit logging, and DDoS protection while preserving engineering velocity.
- • Solve scaling challenges as the AI-native mortgage platform grows, including Aurora PostgreSQL tuning, Kafka throughput optimization, and cost-efficient compute autoscaling.
- • Own reliability and performance of the data platform (Aurora PostgreSQL), managing provisioning, backups, failover, read replicas, and query tuning to ensure safe usage is the default.
- • Reduce toil through automation and self-service tooling so engineers can move fast without waiting on the platform, and contribute to architecture decisions, documentation, and shared on-call rotation.
- • About the team or company:
- • Loancrate is a remote-first team founded in 2020 with a mission to make home-buying simpler and less expensive by replacing outdated mortgage software with AI-native tooling that has already powered over $85 billion in new home loans.
- • The company values collaboration, radical transparency (sharing both successes and failures), and having fun while solving complex problems in the home-lending industry — ideal for engineers who thrive on diving deep quickly.
- • What the person can learn or achieve in this role:
- • Gain deep expertise in building internal platforms that scale with AI workloads, combining infrastructure engineering with developer experience innovation at the forefront of AI-native software development.
- • Shape the technical foundation of a high-impact fintech startup where your work directly enables faster, safer, and more reliable loan origination — potentially saving the industry billions in annual operating costs.
🎯 Requirements
- • Experience building internal platforms or developer tooling such as code generation, CLIs, templates, shared SDKs, or frameworks that improve engineering velocity.
- • Strong TypeScript skills with API design taste — comfortable building stable primitives that other engineers rely on.
- • Deep AWS experience across compute, networking, storage, and security services (ECS, Lambda, VPC, ALB, IAM, RDS, ElastiCache, MSK, OpenSearch, S3, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, GuardDuty).
- • Proficiency with Terraform and/or Pulumi for infrastructure-as-code, including modules, workspaces, and CI-driven plan/apply workflows.
- • Track record designing and operating CI/CD systems that enable large engineering teams to ship frequently and confidently (e.g., Buildkite, GitHub Actions).
- • Experience building production observability stacks using Datadog, CloudWatch, Sentry, distributed tracing, and SLOs to drive reliability and incident reduction.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Robust medical coverage with 100% of employee and family premiums covered by the company.
- • Vision and dental coverage included as part of the comprehensive health benefits package.
- • 401(k) retirement plan with company support for long-term financial planning.
- • HSA and FSA accounts available for tax-advantaged healthcare and dependent care spending.
- • Remote-first culture — work from anywhere you do your best work, with no geographic constraints.
- • Flexible time off policy — trusted to manage your time without accrual tracking or rigid limits.
