Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the heartbeat of QSIC’s global in-store audio network—tens of thousands of Raspberry Pi-powered media players and smart speakers that deliver curated playlists and AI-generated ads to more than 100 million shoppers every month. You will be the technical linchpin who ensures every beat, jingle and promotional message is delivered flawlessly across North America, APAC and beyond.
- • Architect and continuously improve the build, test and deployment pipelines that push new software releases to our fleet. You’ll refine our CI/CD stack (Buildkite, GitHub Actions) so that every commit reaches production safely, quickly and with full observability.
- • Dive deep into customer networks—firewalls, DNS, routing, VLANs, QoS—to diagnose why a store in suburban Phoenix or a flagship in Manhattan suddenly went quiet. You’ll craft reproducible fixes, automate root-cause detection and translate technical findings into plain English for customer Network Engineers and store managers alike.
- • Design and ship lightweight tools in Bash and Golang that let Operations scale from reactive firefighting to proactive fleet management. Whether it’s a one-liner to restart hung services or a long-running agent that streams health metrics to Datadog, your code will run on every device we manage.
- • Elevate observability from “we have dashboards” to “we know before the customer does.” You’ll tune Datadog monitors, craft SLOs and build self-healing alerts that page the right person with the right context—reducing MTTR and keeping the music playing.
- • Collaborate daily with Engineering squads in Australia (UTC+10/11) while living in Pacific or Mountain time. You’ll join architecture reviews, sprint planning and incident post-mortems, ensuring that decisions made in Melbourne work flawlessly on the shop floor in Minneapolis.
- • Champion Infrastructure-as-Code discipline using Terraform to version every AWS resource—from S3 buckets that store ad creatives to CloudFront distributions that cache firmware updates—so that environments are reproducible, auditable and disposable.
- • Influence the product roadmap by surfacing fleet pain points. When you notice that a new audio codec spikes CPU on older Pi models, you’ll feed that insight into the next hardware refresh cycle and firmware optimization sprint.
- • Mentor junior engineers and Operations teammates through pairing sessions, runbooks and lunch-and-learns, raising the technical bar across the organization while fostering a culture of blameless post-mortems and continuous improvement.
- • Stay on the leading edge of IoT, edge computing and retail tech. You’ll evaluate emerging tools—whether it’s eBPF for packet inspection or OSTree for atomic OS updates—and run proof-of-concepts that keep QSIC two steps ahead of the competition.
- • Participate in an on-call rotation that respects your life outside work. We automate first, page second and compensate fairly for every alert answered, ensuring sustainable operations at global scale.
- • Bring your passion for music and audio quality into every technical decision. You’ll work with our Music Curation team to ensure that loudness normalization, gapless playback and dynamic range all survive the journey from cloud to speaker.
