đź“‹ Description
- • Own the strategic direction of S&P Global Commodity Insights’ Tanker Freight Research initiatives, translating complex market signals into forward-looking intelligence that guides multi-billion-dollar trading and investment decisions across the global energy supply chain.
- • Architect, refine, and maintain sophisticated freight-rate forecasting models that integrate macro-economic variables, regulatory impacts, shipyard order books, and real-time AIS data to predict crude and clean-product tanker earnings with industry-leading accuracy.
- • Lead the end-to-end production of the flagship Tanker Freight Rate Forecast (FRF), ensuring methodological alignment with the established dry FRF framework while innovating new features that capture the unique volatility drivers of the liquid-bulk segment.
- • Curate and continuously enhance a proprietary data lake that blends commercial fixtures, port call logs, satellite imagery, and unstructured broker reports, enabling rapid scenario analysis and early detection of emerging trade-flow disruptions.
- • Publish high-impact written research—ranging from weekly market briefs to quarterly outlooks—delivering concise narratives, data-rich exhibits, and actionable recommendations to a sophisticated client base of oil majors, traders, shipowners, and financial institutions.
- • Present findings through multiple channels: live webinars, on-site client workshops, conference keynotes, and one-on-one advisory calls, tailoring the depth and technicality of content to portfolio managers, chartering desks, and C-suite executives alike.
- • Mentor and upskill a distributed team of junior analysts located in Houston, London, and Singapore, instituting rigorous peer-review standards, code repositories, and knowledge-sharing sessions that accelerate professional growth and ensure consistent analytical quality.
- • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Dry Cargo, LNG, and Refining teams to build integrated energy-transition scenarios that quantify how IMO 2030/2050 regulations, alternative-fuel adoption, and shifting refinery configurations will reshape seaborne oil flows.
- • Partner with Sales and Product Management to translate client feedback into new research modules, pricing tiers, and data-delivery APIs, directly influencing revenue growth and client retention metrics for the Shipping Analytics franchise.
- • Drive original data-mining projects—levering SQL, Python, and machine-learning libraries—to uncover latent patterns in fixture data, voyage economics, and fleet productivity, converting these discoveries into monetizable insights and intellectual property.
- • Establish and document standardized research workflows, version-controlled code bases, and reproducible analytical templates that reduce cycle time for recurring publications and safeguard institutional knowledge.
- • Manage a dynamic portfolio of concurrent projects, balancing ad-hoc client requests, long-term methodological upgrades, and regulatory-impact studies while meeting aggressive publication deadlines and quality benchmarks.
- • Represent S&P Global Commodity Insights at industry forums, regulatory hearings, and academic symposiums, enhancing the firm’s thought-leadership profile and feeding external perspectives back into internal research agendas.
🎯 Requirements
- • Minimum 7 years of combined freight and commodity-market experience, including at least 3 years focused on liquid-bulk (crude or clean-product) market analytics or trading.
- • Demonstrated expertise in market-structure analysis, voyage economics, and freight-demand/supply drivers, supported by strong macro-economic literacy.
- • Proven ability to manipulate large, unstructured data sets using advanced Excel, SQL, and/or Python; familiarity with Tableau or Power BI for visualization is strongly preferred.
- • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a track record of distilling complex analytics into clear, client-ready narratives and presentations.
- • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Economics, Engineering, Data Science, Maritime Studies, or a related quantitative discipline; advanced degree a plus.

- • Competitive base salary ranging from $100,000–$120,000, complemented by an annual incentive plan and comprehensive health & wellness coverage for you and your family.
- • Generous flexible downtime policy, including vacation, personal days, and company-wide recharge weeks to sustain long-term creativity and performance.
- • Continuous learning ecosystem—access to internal academies, external certifications, and a company-matched student-loan contribution program to accelerate career growth.
