- • Own the end-to-end product design process for Ostrom’s consumer energy products, from problem discovery and solution ideation to wireframing, prototyping, and delivering high-fidelity designs ready for engineering implementation.
- • Translate complex energy-related concepts — including tariffs, smart device integrations, automation, and optimization — into simple, intuitive, and trustworthy user experiences across mobile and web platforms.
- • Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Engineering, Marketing, and Operations teams to define requirements, facilitate workshops, iterate on solutions, and align design outcomes with business and customer goals.
- • Contribute to the development and evolution of Ostrom’s design system to ensure consistency, scalability, and cohesion across all digital products and touchpoints.
- • Define success metrics for designed features and monitor post-launch performance using user research, product analytics, usability testing, and customer support feedback.
- • Mentor and support another product designer by providing constructive feedback, establishing pragmatic design rituals, and promoting best practices in UX/UI design and collaboration.
- • Advocate for the user by becoming an internal expert on customer behavior, needs, and pain points, using insights to influence product strategy and prioritize design improvements.
- • Participate in shaping the product roadmap by helping prioritize initiatives that maintain a high bar for user experience and align with Ostrom’s mission of delivering fair, clean energy to everyone.
- • Maintain awareness of emerging design trends, tools, and industry standards, and apply them pragmatically to balance innovation with timely delivery in a fast-paced startup environment.
- • Simplify complex product logic, data visualizations, system states, and user settings into clear, accessible, and delightful interfaces that reduce cognitive load and increase user confidence.
- • Demonstrate strong UI judgment through mastery of design patterns, visual hierarchy, spacing, typography, accessibility standards, and interaction quality across platforms.
- • Work in an agile environment with cross-functional teams, managing multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail and delivering high-quality outputs on schedule.
- • Communicate design decisions clearly and persuasively to stakeholders, integrating feedback effectively while advocating for user-centered solutions.
- • Contribute to a transparent, flat-hierarchy culture where every team member’s voice is valued and feedback is encouraged at all levels.
- • Support company-wide initiatives around sustainability by designing experiences that help customers understand and maximize their environmental impact, including CO2 offset tracking and energy optimization insights.
🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of experience as a Product Designer with clear ownership of complex mobile or web product experiences in a fast-paced startup or tech environment.
- • Strong understanding of UX principles, visual design, interaction design, and user research methodologies including usability testing and hypothesis validation.
- • Proven ability to simplify complex product logic, data, and system states into clear, intuitive user experiences.
- • Experience contributing to and improving design systems to ensure product consistency and scalability.
- • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate, align, and integrate feedback across cross-functional teams.
- • Strong command of English; ability to collaborate effectively in an international, English-speaking team.
