Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • As the inaugural Senior Product Manager at Hauler Hero, you will be instrumental in shaping the future of our groundbreaking software platform designed for the essential waste and recycling hauling industry. This is a high-impact, high-autonomy role where you will own major product areas end-to-end, moving beyond simply executing tasks to defining what we build and, crucially, why we build it. You will have significant authority over your domains, guiding initiatives from initial discovery through to launch and ongoing iteration, working directly with founders, engineering leads, and R&D leadership to influence product direction and roadmap priorities.
- • Your strategic vision and product decisions will directly impact a diverse user base, from small, family-owned haulers to large enterprise municipal contracts managing fleets of over 100 trucks. The waste management industry, a $100B sector often reliant on outdated systems and spreadsheets, is ripe for disruption, and Hauler Hero is at the forefront of providing modern, effective solutions. You will be a key player in driving this transformation, ensuring our platform meets the complex needs of these hard-working professionals who keep our communities clean.
- • This senior individual contributor role demands a proactive approach. You will be expected to take ownership without waiting for explicit permission, challenging assumptions with data and customer insights, and thinking holistically about the entire customer journey, not just isolated features. We are looking for someone who can balance the need for speed with a commitment to quality and craft, understanding that shipping a product is merely the starting line for continuous improvement and customer success.
- • You will partner closely with design and engineering leadership as an equal, engaging in robust debates, iterating collaboratively, and ensuring that the solutions we ship are not only functional but also intuitive and scalable. Your responsibilities will include running discovery processes that genuinely shape product development, not just validate pre-determined ideas. This involves conducting customer interviews, site visits, and usability tests to gather deep insights that translate directly into actionable requirements and well-scoped product backlog items.
- • A critical aspect of this role is owning the outcomes, not just the outputs. This means focusing on key metrics such as adoption, retention, and overall customer impact. You will be responsible for defining product direction for your assigned areas, making difficult prioritization calls with clear tradeoffs, and defending those decisions. You will also manage beta programs, actively recruiting customers, gathering feedback, and iterating on solutions before a wider release.
- • Collaboration is key. You will coordinate closely with support, success, marketing, and sales teams to ensure smooth and effective product releases. A significant part of your role will involve becoming an expert in the waste industry, understanding the intricacies of hauler operations, routing, billing, and field workflows. This expertise will enable you to build strong customer relationships and effectively represent their voice internally.
- • You will leverage analytics to meticulously monitor product adoption, identify areas of friction, and drive continuous improvements. Building tight feedback loops and shipping iterative solutions will be paramount. The solutions you craft must be intuitive and scalable, catering to the needs of both small operators and large enterprise clients. Your contributions will extend to roadmap planning, providing customer insights, competitive intelligence, and strategic perspectives.
- • Furthermore, you will be expected to utilize AI tools throughout your product development process, from discovery and ideation to specification and analysis. You will also play a vital role in evolving Hauler Hero's internal processes, tools, and ways of working, contributing to the foundational elements of a scaling product organization. Expect to travel for customer visits once or twice a year, alongside R&D sprints and company off-sites, to foster deeper understanding and connection.
- • This role is ideal for a product manager who thrives in ambiguity, is comfortable with direct feedback, and iterates quickly in fast-paced, lean environments. You should possess a scientific mindset, a willingness to experiment, and a deep commitment to team success over personal credit. Your ability to communicate clearly and concisely, balance execution with strategic thinking, and maintain a collaborative, low-ego approach will be essential for success in this dynamic and rewarding position.
