Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Design and evaluate economic mechanisms for Monad, a high-performance, EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain, to optimize for decentralization, economic security, spam prevention, compatibility with existing infrastructure, and ease of use.
- • Focus on critical mechanism design areas including transaction ordering (e.g., PGA vs. flashbots/PBS), staking, liquid staking, on-chain randomness, light clients, and consensus protocols.
- • Identify and assess potential attack vectors against Monad’s protocol and propose mitigation strategies to prevent security threats and centralization risks.
- • Advise the engineering and product teams on the technical merits of external systems such as bridges, DeFi protocols, and cross-chain solutions.
- • Stay current with mechanism design innovations across major blockchains and develop informed opinions on the strengths and weaknesses of existing practices.
- • Collaborate closely with engineers to translate theoretical mechanisms into testable, implementable protocol components.
- • Write and publish technical analyses and research findings for both internal teams and public audiences through blogs, papers, and talks.
- • Evaluate the architectural implications of MEV in Ethereum post-Merge, including its impact on decentralization and validator behavior.
- • Analyze delegation economics, slashing conditions, and stake pool structures within staking systems to enhance economic security.
- • Assess consensus mechanisms such as pBFT, Tendermint, and Gasper for applicability and optimization within Monad’s architecture.
- • Examine trustlessness and decentralization guarantees of Layer 1s and rollups, including the use of merkle proofs and light client designs.
- • Apply deep knowledge of DeFi primitives including AMMs, oracles, and lending protocols to inform protocol compatibility and integration strategies.
- • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- • Contribute to an open-source culture by developing and sharing protocol designs publicly on GitHub.
- • Help shape the company’s culture as an early team member through collaboration, low ego, and high-quality output.
- • Leverage AI tools such as coding agents for prototyping and analysis, while maintaining rigorous review standards for all shipped code.
- • Work on problems with potential impact on hundreds of millions of users, advancing the scalability and accessibility of decentralized computation.
🎯 Requirements
- • Excellent knowledge of mechanisms and policies in existing blockchains, including transaction ordering/MEV, staking and economic security, consensus mechanisms (pBFT, Tendermint, Gasper), spam prevention, and trustlessness/decentralization (light clients, merkle proofs).
- • Excellent knowledge of major DeFi primitives such as AMMs, bridges, and oracles.
- • Excellent technical communication skills.
- • Extreme technical curiosity, attention to detail, creativity, resourcefulness, independence, clarity of thought, and enthusiasm for learning and teaching.
- • Enthusiasm for Monad’s mission of enabling far more decentralized computation.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Private health insurance options
- • Flexible paid time off
- • Monthly wellness reimbursement
- • Paid parental leave
- • Competitive salary ($180,000 – $250,000) and equity package
- • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision insurance (for US employees), including 75% coverage for dependents and HSA + FSA options
- • 401(k) with company match (for US employees)
- • Lunch and dinner stipend (for in-office NYC employees)
