- • Serve as the primary expert for robotic manipulation solutions on MoveIt Pro, owning end-to-end development of motion planning, inverse kinematics, reachability analysis, collision avoidance, and grasping algorithms.
- • Integrate and tune robotic arm systems with surrounding hardware to ensure reliable, repeatable execution of customer-specific tasks within required cycle times.
- • Collaborate directly with global customers to translate complex real-world manipulation challenges into deployable robotic solutions, including missions on Earth and in outer space.
- • Design, implement, and validate robotic control systems using ROS, ensuring seamless hardware-software integration across diverse robotic platforms.
- • Optimize perception and simulation pipelines to improve task success rates and reduce deployment time for customer applications.
- • Participate in the full product lifecycle—from concept and prototyping to field testing and production deployment—on robots deployed worldwide.
- • Work closely with cross-functional engineering teams to align manipulation capabilities with system-level requirements and customer expectations.
- • Maintain rigorous attention to detail in algorithm development, testing, and documentation to ensure safety, reliability, and performance in mission-critical environments.
- • Travel approximately every other month to customer sites and industry conferences, spending less than 20% of time on the road.
- • Contribute to the advancement of robotics software by innovating on core manipulation algorithms and applying emerging techniques such as embodied AI and diffusion policies.
- • Adapt and leverage AI-assisted coding, writing, and technical tools to accelerate development and improve code quality.
- • Maintain active engagement with the robotics community through open-source contributions, research, and technical collaboration.
- • Work in-office at least three days per week from PickNik’s Boulder headquarters, with occasional remote work permitted.
- • Stay current with advancements in robotic libraries such as MoveIt, Nav2, Mujoco, PCL, OpenCV, Eigen, and Boost to enhance system capabilities.
- • Translate customer feedback into actionable engineering improvements, ensuring solutions meet both technical and operational requirements.
- • Document system architectures, algorithmic approaches, and deployment procedures for internal knowledge sharing and customer handoff.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Computer Science, a related robotics-focused field, or equivalent industry experience
- • 6+ years of professional work experience in robotics engineering
- • Proficient in ROS and experienced with ROS hardware integration
- • Demonstrated track record of innovation in robotics algorithms and applications
- • Strong understanding of motion planning, control, perception, and simulation
- • Must live in the Boulder/Denver area and be able to work in-office at least 3 days per week
- • Willingness and ability to travel approximately every other month (less than 20% of time)
