This position is critical to delivering secure, scalable backend systems that enable client success through expert consulting and custom software development.
- • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Rust, with ownership over architecture and implementation of gRPC services, data access layers, and observability tooling for enterprise clients.
- • Collaborate within an agile, remote-first team to architect modular solutions using Clean Architecture, CQRS, event sourcing, and actor-based concurrency patterns across workspace crates (model, domain, data, service).
- • Build and optimize data access layers for relational (e.g., PostgreSQL), time-series (e.g., TimescaleDB), and graph (e.g., Neo4j) databases, ensuring performance and reliability at scale.
- • Engage in daily stand-ups, weekly agile meetings, code reviews, and direct client communication to demonstrate progress, gather feedback, and align technical delivery with business needs.
- • Contribute to system observability and monitoring using OpenTelemetry and Tracing, ensuring production systems are measurable, debuggable, and maintainable.
- • NextLink Labs is a remote-first, inclusive organization committed to professional growth and work-life balance, with team members distributed across the United States.
- • The company values clarity, ownership, and outcomes, fostering an environment where engineers take end-to-end responsibility for technical solutions and client impact.
- • This role offers the opportunity to work on diverse, high-impact client engagements, deepening expertise in distributed systems while shaping architecture and driving innovation in Rust-based backend development.
- • Engineers will grow their mastery of modern Rust ecosystem tools, including async runtimes, gRPC, and cloud-native deployment practices, while contributing to secure, scalable systems used in production.
🎯 Requirements

- • Proficiency with relational, time-series, and graph databases; experience with TimescaleDB and Neo4j preferred
- • Strong testing practices including unit and integration testing; familiarity with BDD frameworks like Cucumber is a plus
- • Understanding of security best practices including JWT-based authentication and authorization
- • Understanding of fundamental design principles behind scalable and distributed systems
🏖️ Benefits
