- • Hopper is seeking a Senior Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our dynamic Cloud FinOps team, a critical component of our mission to revolutionize the travel industry. In this fully remote role, based in Ireland, you will play a pivotal role in managing and optimizing our extensive Google Cloud infrastructure, which serves hundreds of engineers and millions of end-users worldwide. If you possess a deep passion for automation, a relentless drive for system optimization, and a knack for building scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-effective solutions, this is the opportunity for you.
- • Your daily responsibilities will encompass a wide range of impactful projects aimed at enhancing cost efficiency and operational excellence. You will be instrumental in reducing network egress costs by identifying and eliminating unnecessary data transmission, such as optimizing HTTP headers. A significant part of your role will involve ensuring our data warehouse solutions are not only cost-effective but also optimally configured, by strategically selecting the most efficient storage tiers, like cold storage for infrequently accessed data, thereby minimizing expenditure without compromising accessibility.
- • Furthermore, you will fine-tune our autoscaling mechanisms for both databases and compute resources, ensuring they dynamically adjust to demand, thereby maximizing performance and minimizing waste. A key focus will be on refining our cost attribution systems, providing all engineering teams with granular and transparent visibility into their cloud spend. This clarity empowers teams to make informed decisions and fosters a culture of cost accountability across the organization.
- • You will also be an integral part of our incident response process, contributing to the resolution of platform incidents and participating in an on-call rotation. Given our geographically distributed team across America and Europe, this rotation is structured to ensure you can maintain a healthy work-life balance, even with global operations. Your expertise will be crucial in troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues, providing support to fellow engineers, and reviewing and approving Pull Requests that require Platform team oversight, ensuring adherence to best practices and architectural standards.
- • As a member of a small, highly efficient SRE team, you will collaborate closely with talented engineers, sharing knowledge and driving continuous improvement. This role offers a unique chance to make a substantial impact on a globally recognized travel platform, leveraging cutting-edge cloud technologies and FinOps principles. You will be at the forefront of ensuring our infrastructure is not only robust and performant but also economically sustainable, directly contributing to Hopper's ambitious growth trajectory and its mission to provide unparalleled travel experiences.
- • This position is ideal for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment, enjoys tackling complex challenges, and is eager to contribute to a company that is redefining the future of travel through technology and data. You will have the autonomy to propose and implement solutions, working with modern tools and methodologies to achieve significant operational and financial gains. Your work will directly influence the efficiency and scalability of a platform used by millions, making this a highly rewarding and visible role within Hopper.
