  • • As a Senior Social Media Specialist for Change.org in Australia, you will play a pivotal role in amplifying democratic engagement by leading the organization’s social media presence across key platforms, driving awareness and participation in civic initiatives that align with Change.org’s mission to empower people globally.
  • • You will report to the Communications Manager, Australia, and serve as a senior contributor to the Australian team, owning the end-to-end execution of social media strategy and content creation to grow audience reach, deepen engagement, and support high-impact campaigns.
  • • Your day-to-day responsibilities will include leading and defining the Change.org Australia social media strategy with a focus on growing followers, increasing impressions and engagement, and acquiring new users through data-informed tactics.
  • • You will create timely, news-driven short-form video content with viral potential for daily output on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, ensuring content is objective, journalistic, and inclusive of diverse perspectives across the political spectrum.
  • • You will develop and execute influencer outreach and activation strategies to support priority campaigns, building authentic relationships that amplify reach and drive measurable conversion impact.
  • • You will produce both reactive and planned static social assets, including graphics and copy, maintaining a consistent brand voice while adapting to breaking news and trending issues in the Australian landscape.
  • • You will monitor, analyse, and report on social media performance on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis, using insights to optimise content, timing, and targeting in real time to improve ROI and audience growth.
  • • You will collaborate with internal teams to align social efforts with broader campaign goals, ensuring petitions and initiatives are promoted effectively and ethically, even when personally disagreeing with the cause, upholding Change.org’s commitment to being an open platform.
  • • You will leverage AI tools to streamline content creation, scheduling, and analytics, continuously learning and experimenting with emerging technologies to enhance efficiency and creativity.
  • • You will stay deeply informed about the Australian news, social, and political landscape, using this knowledge to generate timely, relevant content ideas that resonate with local audiences and reflect current issues.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 5+ years of experience in a social media role within a fast-paced environment, preferably with a major Australian media outlet, campaign organisation, or nonprofit.
  • • Proven expertise in creating impactful short-form video content, particularly for TikTok and Instagram, with a track record of growing audiences and driving engagement.
  • • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute data-informed social media strategies that optimise performance based on insights from impressions, engagement, and user acquisition metrics.
  • • Comfort and experience appearing on-camera to present video content when required for campaign storytelling.
  • • Strong understanding of the Australian news, social, and political landscape, with the ability to generate content ideas based on current trends and issues.
  • • Experience building and managing relationships with influencers to support campaign goals, including outreach, negotiation, and performance tracking.
  • • Familiarity with using AI tools to enhance content creation, scheduling, or analytics, and a willingness to continue learning in this area.
  • • Commitment to upholding an open platform mindset, including the willingness to support policy-compliant campaigns across the political spectrum, even when personally misaligned.
