📋 Description

• Senior Software Engineer at John Wiley & Sons, Inc. transforms high-level architecture into detailed technical designs while building scalable applications and mentoring team members. This role operates in critical parts of the technology stack, designing, building, and releasing applications and systems that improve customer learning and engagement experiences, directly supporting Wiley’s mission to transform knowledge into impact for learners worldwide.
• The person will work independently with minimal guidance, taking ownership of services and team responsibilities with a full-cycle, full-stack approach within a Squad environment following Scrum Agile methodology, reporting directly to a Software Development Manager on the Assessments Program.
• Day to day, the Senior Software Engineer will build new features on existing products and create brand-new experiences for learners, ensuring high-quality development through unit tests, automated testing, code reviews, and adherence to code standards.
• They will work independently yet under the guidance of architects, managers, and other stakeholders, committed to quality and timely delivery while actively participating in Agile Scrum ceremonies including daily meetings, refinement, planning, and retrospectives.
• The role includes taking the lead on design discussions, providing solutions, and guiding/mentoring junior engineers, while contributing to the continuous improvement of development processes across the team.
• The engineer will apply best practices and standards daily, adapt to using AI as a work tool, and leverage experience with AWS, MySQL, MongoDB, GitLab/GitHub, Jenkins, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and Jira as key advantages in their work.
• They will be comfortable working within an international team, requiring strong English communication skills for reading, writing, and speaking in face-to-face and audience settings.

🎯 Requirements

• Enthusiastic about implementing scalable solutions using the right tools, with a code base primarily in .NET (C#) and REACT, though general development skills are valued over specific language or framework expertise.
• Ability to guide and mentor junior developers while collaborating with leads and architects on application design.
• Solid communication skills enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders across the company.
• Work experience with Amazon AWS, MySQL, MongoDB, GitLab/GitHub, Jenkins, Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, and Jira is a key advantage.
• Familiarity with Scrum Agile development framework and comfort working in close, multi-competency teams.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices to support day-to-day work efficiency and reliability.
