- • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of high-impact services that power PagerDuty’s real-time incident response platform, serving thousands of enterprise customers and processing billions of events per month.
- • Architect, build and scale distributed systems in Go, Java or Python that guarantee sub-second alerting, intelligent noise-reduction and seamless workflow automation across cloud and on-prem environments.
- • Collaborate with product managers, UX researchers and SREs to translate complex customer pain-points into elegant technical solutions that reduce mean-time-to-resolution (MTTR) and improve digital reliability for Fortune 100 companies.
- • Drive technical strategy for reliability, performance and cost-efficiency by leading design reviews, establishing SLIs/SLOs and championing chaos engineering practices across multiple squads.
- • Mentor and level-up a globally distributed team of engineers through pair programming, architecture deep-dives and inclusive leadership that celebrates diverse perspectives.
- • Contribute to open-source projects and speak at conferences to share PagerDuty’s innovations in observability, incident response and AIOps with the broader tech community.
- • Participate in a lightweight on-call rotation (roughly one week in eight) to stay close to production, using the same platform you build to ensure 99.99% uptime for customers.
- • Influence the roadmap by synthesizing customer feedback, market trends and telemetry data into actionable proposals that balance short-term wins with long-term technical vision.
- • Leverage AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, Terraform and Datadog to deliver secure, compliant and highly available microservices that meet SOC 2, ISO 27001 and FedRAMP standards.
- • Foster a culture of continuous learning by hosting internal tech talks, sponsoring conference attendance and experimenting with emerging technologies like eBPF, WebAssembly and LLM-driven operations.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of production experience designing and operating distributed systems at scale (millions of requests per day or more).
- • Expert-level proficiency in at least one of Go, Java, Python or Ruby, plus comfort working across the full stack when needed.
- • Proven track record of driving measurable reliability improvements—e.g., reducing MTTR by 30% or cutting alert fatigue by 50%.
- • Nice-to-have: hands-on experience with Kubernetes operators, service meshes (Istio/Linkerd) or chaos engineering tools (Gremlin, Chaos Monkey).
