- • Design and implement core improvements to the Monad protocol, including consensus mechanism, gossip protocol, state synchronization algorithm, and leader election protocol.
- • Devise and execute experiments to test worst-case scenarios in distributed systems, iterating on designs based on empirical results.
- • Build high-performance, low-latency system components from scratch using C++ or Rust, focusing on memory efficiency and performance optimization.
- • Design system components with awareness of interactions with external blockchain systems such as rollups, bridges, and staking protocols.
- • Contribute to open-source software by developing and maintaining public codebases on GitHub, including Monad’s parallel-execution EVM and BFT consensus client.
- • Collaborate with a small, high-performing team of engineers and researchers to solve complex problems at the frontier of decentralized technology.
- • Apply deep expertise in distributed systems, cryptography, and consensus algorithms to enhance the scalability and security of an EVM-compatible Layer 1 blockchain.
- • Profile and optimize system performance using industry-standard tools, ensuring components meet strict latency and throughput requirements.
- • Participate in architectural reviews and code discussions with a focus on clean, maintainable, and production-grade software.
- • Work in a hybrid environment based in New York, with in-office expectations for team collaboration and alignment.
- • Engage with evolving AI tooling in software development, using coding agents as leverage while maintaining rigorous review standards for all shipped code.
- • Contribute to a culture of collaboration, low ego, and high-quality output as an early team member shaping the company’s engineering norms.
- • Maintain transparency by building in the open, with all core software publicly accessible and reviewed by the broader blockchain ecosystem.
- • Align technical decisions with the goal of enabling mass adoption of blockchain through performance improvements that preserve EVM compatibility.
🎯 Requirements
- • At least 5 years of software engineering experience in Rust, C++, or C.
- • Significant experience building performant systems from scratch, such as databases, device drivers, or embedded systems.
- • Excellent instincts for software architecture, memory management, and performance optimization and profiling tools.
- • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
