📋 Description

• Design, build, and operate scalable, production-grade back-end systems at the core of Relevance AI’s platform to enable AI agents that think, act, and collaborate like experts.
• Own mission-critical services end-to-end—from ideation and architecture to deployment, monitoring, and long-term maintenance—ensuring reliability, performance, and scalability for enterprise customers.
• Push the boundaries of applied AI by developing new agent capabilities, workflows, and system behaviours that make AI usable, reliable, and production-ready in real-world operations.
• Shape and evolve engineering standards, architecture, and development processes as the company scales, contributing to technical decision-making across teams.
• Mentor and support fellow engineers by promoting high standards of technical quality, ownership, and collaboration within the Sydney engineering team.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and customer-facing teams to align technical execution with business outcomes and customer needs.
• Build and maintain REST and GraphQL APIs that power the platform’s core functionality and integrate with internal and external systems.
• Develop and manage distributed, fault-tolerant systems using modern cloud infrastructure on AWS, Kubernetes, and Terraform.
• Leverage AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex to enhance productivity and innovation in daily development workflows.
• Contribute to frontend development using React and Vue.js with TypeScript to ensure seamless integration between client and server layers.
• Work with PostgreSQL and MongoDB to design and optimize data models that support complex agent workflows and enterprise-grade data requirements.
• Act autonomously with minimal oversight, shipping features to production within hours and leading complex projects without unnecessary layers of approval.
• Stay current with advancements in AI and agentic automation, applying new techniques and tools to improve product capabilities and engineering efficiency.
• Participate in shaping company culture, ways of working, and future benefits as an early team member in a high-growth, high-trust environment.
• Contribute to building enterprise-grade features including IAM, SSO, audit logs, compliance frameworks, and observability systems for large customers like Canva, Databricks, and Autodesk.
• Engage with the broader tech community through company-hosted events featuring thought leaders and industry partners, reinforcing Relevance AI’s position at the forefront of AI innovation.

🎯 Requirements

• 4+ years of hands-on software engineering experience (full-stack or back-end focused), ideally within fast-paced, high-growth, and complex technical environments.
• Experience designing and operating APIs (REST or GraphQL) and distributed systems.
• Passion for designing and building large-scale, distributed, and fault-tolerant systems for real-world users.
• Thrive in dynamic, high-performance startup settings and comfortable with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and taking initiative.
• Demonstrated ability to take full ownership of projects, solve complex problems, and consistently deliver high-quality, impactful results.
• Deep interest in artificial intelligence and excitement to build innovative, category-defining products.
