- • As a Senior Software Engineer, Backend at Flock Safety, you will play a critical role in building and scaling the core infrastructure that powers a nationwide public-private safety network connecting law enforcement, businesses, schools, and communities. Your work will directly contribute to real-time crime prevention and security intelligence while upholding the highest standards of privacy and responsible innovation.
- • You will design, develop, and optimize high-performance Go-based microservices and APIs, with deep focus on PostgreSQL database performance, schema design, and distributed systems reliability, ensuring the platform scales to meet growing demand across thousands of communities.
- • You will collaborate asynchronously with a high-performance, low-ego engineering team that values ownership, clear communication, and technical excellence, contributing to architectural decisions and mentoring peers through code reviews and technical leadership.
- • You will lead performance optimization initiatives, drive improvements in observability and CI/CD practices, and act as a technical lead on mid-sized Go microservice projects, directly impacting system reliability, latency, and throughput.
- • You will gain deep expertise in Go internals, concurrency patterns, event-driven architectures, and Kubernetes-based deployments while working on systems that process real-time data from Flock’s hardware and software suite used by over 5,000 communities and 4,500 law enforcement agencies.
- • You will grow into a trusted technical leader who shapes platform architecture, influences long-term scalability strategy, and helps build systems that balance performance with ethical data use in public safety applications.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of backend development experience, including at least 4+ years using Go in production
- • 3+ years of PostgreSQL experience (querying, schema design, and performance tuning)
- • 3+ years of database architecture experience
- • Proficiency with message queues, pub/sub systems, or event-driven architectures
- • Experience designing and scaling production-grade Go microservices
- • Expertise in profiling and optimizing Go applications for latency and throughput
- • Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Grafana)
- • Experience in CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and Kubernetes
- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
