📋 Description

• Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Java) at Dataminr Inc. is a pivotal role focused on designing, developing, and maintaining scalable Java EE applications that power the company’s AI-driven real-time event detection platform, which processes billions of public data inputs across text, image, video, audio, and sensor data in over 150 languages to deliver critical intelligence to global enterprises.
• The role centers on building and optimizing enterprise-grade software using Java EE, JPA, Maven, Docker/Podman, and Linux networking, with direct impact on Dataminr’s Regenerative AI (ReGenAI) and Agentic AI capabilities that autonomously generate real-time Live Event Briefs and critical context for clients facing emerging threats, risks, and events worldwide.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and implementing scalable Java EE architectures, managing database interactions via JPA, automating builds and dependencies with Maven, containerizing applications using Docker/Podman, troubleshooting complex system issues to ensure stability and performance, conducting code reviews, mentoring junior developers, and collaborating with DevOps, QA, and Product teams to drive innovation in a fast-paced Agile/Scrum environment.
• You will work on high-impact features that enhance the ThreatConnect® Platform’s extensibility and openness, directly contributing to Dataminr’s mission of helping organizations detect and respond to emerging risks before they unfold — serving two-thirds of the Fortune 50 and half of the Fortune 100.
• The role emphasizes continuous learning and adaptability, requiring you to stay current with rapid technology releases, manage full software release cycles, and apply up-to-date methods in debugging, optimization, and problem-solving across systems, networking, OS environments, and third-party tools.
• You will be expected to communicate technical concepts clearly, both written and orally, advocate for product-first thinking, and proactively step in to resolve customer infrastructure issues or propose better solutions — embodying Dataminr’s culture of empathy, allyship, and social good.
• As a senior engineer, you will influence architectural decisions, enforce coding and design best practices, and help shape the technical direction of a platform that leverages multimodal AI to detect events from images, video, sensor data, audio, and text in real time — making you a key contributor to Dataminr’s position as a pioneer in real-time event detection since 2009.
• This role offers the opportunity to grow your expertise in enterprise Java systems while working on cutting-edge AI applications that have tangible global impact, from cybersecurity threat intelligence to crisis response and operational resilience for clients across industries and geographies.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience in Java development with strong expertise in Java EE and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
• Hands-on experience with software architecture design for enterprise applications, including proficiency in JPA for database interactions and Maven for dependency management and build automation.
• Solid understanding of Docker/Podman containerization, Linux-based environments and networking fundamentals, PKI Certificates, Java Keystores, and proficiency in writing Bash and/or Python scripts.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies, and strong written and oral communication abilities.
