- • Senior Software Engineer responsible for owning and evolving Scribe’s billing platform, which powers revenue across 5M+ users and 600K+ organizations by managing subscriptions, enterprise invoicing, pricing changes, and the subscription lifecycle.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include designing resilient, event-driven systems for financial correctness, building reconciliation processes relied on by Finance and leadership, improving subscription lifecycle reliability (renewals, plan changes, invoicing, payment recovery), scaling workflows for self-serve and enterprise customers, enabling safe pricing and packaging changes, improving system boundaries between billing, entitlements, and reporting, and shipping customer-facing billing flows and internal tooling as needed.
- • Part of a small, focused team with meaningful ownership where the engineer defines system behavior, resolves ambiguity, evaluates edge cases, and makes architectural tradeoffs — not handed tightly scoped tickets but expected to drive ambiguity to resolution.
- • Opportunity to grow beyond billing into adjacent systems like entitlements and broader monetization infrastructure, shaping how pricing, access control, and revenue systems work together while working with a stack including Django, DRF, Celery, PostgreSQL, Stripe, and Next.js in a hybrid role based in San Francisco.
🎯 Requirements
- • 6+ years of software engineering experience
- • Experience building or maintaining billing, payments, or other high-integrity financial systems in production
- • Strong backend engineering skills, ideally in Python and Django
- • Ability to think in terms of guarantees: consistency, idempotency, reconciliation, durability
- • Comfort with scoping ambiguous problems and driving them end to end
- • Experience with Stripe or similar billing platforms (helpful but not required)
