📋 Description

• As a Senior Software Engineer on the Connect Platform team at Confluent, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of real-time data integration by designing, building, and operating critical components that connect Apache Kafka with external systems—enabling enterprises to securely and scalably move data across hybrid environments.
• Your work will directly impact how organizations harness streaming data to power event-driven architectures, making data flow seamless, secure, and observable from on-premises to Confluent Cloud.
• Day to day, you will architect and evolve complex distributed systems end-to-end, focusing on scalability, performance, and resilience of the Connect Platform, including Self-Managed and Fully Managed connectors.
• You will partner with cross-functional engineering teams and stakeholders to define and execute the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with customer needs and industry-leading practices in data streaming.
• You will evaluate and modernize the platform’s technology stack, adopting cloud-native innovations and state-of-the-art solutions in security, networking, and observability to maintain technical excellence.
• You will lead and mentor engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, and collaborative problem-solving, fostering a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
• You will enhance system stability and efficiency by diagnosing and resolving complex production issues, optimizing latency, throughput, and resource utilization across critical services.
• You will contribute to core platform primitives such as Single Message Transforms (SMTs), authentication mechanisms, role-based access control, tenant isolation, and network security controls.
• You will participate in on-call rotations and drive incident response, ensuring high availability and reliability of streaming data pipelines for global customers.
• You will advocate for best practices in cloud-native development, including Kubernetes orchestration, microservices architecture, and infrastructure-as-code, while mentoring others in these domains.
• You will influence technical decisions through clear communication, data-driven reasoning, and collaborative negotiation, helping remove friction in development and delivery processes.
• You will grow your expertise in enterprise-scale data infrastructure, gaining deep experience in one of the most advanced streaming platforms in the industry, working alongside top engineers solving hard problems at scale.
• You will achieve mastery in distributed systems design, cloud security, and platform engineering, positioning yourself as a leader in the data streaming space with opportunities to shape open-source contributions and industry standards.

🎯 Requirements

• 3-5 years of relevant software development experience with a proven track record of delivering large-scale, secure, highly available, low-latency, and high-quality systems.
• Deep hands-on expertise in hyper-scale distributed systems engineering, including experience running production services in the cloud and participating in on-call rotations.
• Strong proficiency in Java, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), with a deep understanding of cloud-native technologies, networking, and security best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor technical teams, influence peers and management through effective communication, and drive results by improving development velocity and operational excellence.
• BS Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience; an advanced degree in Computer Science is preferred.
