- • Collaborate with Speechify’s Product Teams to scope projects, reduce scope for faster customer feedback, and navigate integration and UX tradeoffs across platforms using the cross-platform SDK.
- • Design and implement more efficient abstractions and algorithms to optimize existing functionality, including faster loading times and more intelligent parsing of content.
- • Ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs using Kotlin.
- • Work at the intersection of product and infrastructure to build and maintain foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s core user experience across all platforms.
- • Translate product goals into technical solutions that enhance accessibility and usability for millions of users, including those with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADD, low vision, concussions, and autism.
- • Prioritize simplicity and reliability in system design, ensuring APIs and services are clear, maintainable, and scalable.
- • Balance speed and focus in a high-growth startup environment, knowing when to engage collaboratively and when to work independently with deep concentration.
- • Partner effectively with opinionated designers, marketers, and product managers to align technical execution with product vision and user needs.
- • Contribute to an asynchronous, remote-first culture that values autonomy, intuition, and hustle while maintaining high standards of engineering quality.
- • Build systems that directly support Speechify’s mission to transform how people consume information through audio, making learning faster, deeper, and more accessible.
- • Engage in end-to-end system thinking, from user-facing features to underlying infrastructure, ensuring holistic optimization of performance and reliability.
- • Iterate rapidly on product features while maintaining stability and performance across multiple platforms and device types.
- • Leverage Kotlin Multiplatform expertise to develop shared codebases that reduce redundancy and improve consistency across iOS, Android, and web environments.
- • Contribute to a product used by millions that sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence and audio technology, driving innovation in accessibility and information consumption.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proficiency in Kotlin, with experience in Kotlin Multiplatform preferred
- • Strong systems thinking and ability to design end-to-end solutions with simplicity and reliability as priorities
- • Experience shipping cloud functions, backend services, or background jobs
- • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with product, design, and marketing teams in a fast-paced, remote environment
- • Focus and discipline to thrive in a high-growth startup with asynchronous workflows
- • Prior experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a plus
