- • Collaborate with Speechify’s Product Teams to scope projects, reduce scope for faster customer feedback, and navigate integration and UX tradeoffs across platforms using the cross-platform SDK.
- • Design and implement efficient abstractions and improved algorithms to optimize existing functionality, including faster loading times and more intelligent parsing of content.
- • Ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs using Kotlin.
- • Work at the intersection of product and infrastructure to build and maintain foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s core user experience across all platforms.
- • Prioritize simplicity and reliability in system design, ensuring APIs are clear, maintainable, and directly enhance the end-user experience.
- • Apply systems thinking to solve problems with end-to-end design, balancing technical depth with product needs and user impact.
- • Work quickly to generate multiple solutions, evaluate tradeoffs, and determine which features can ship immediately versus those requiring further refinement.
- • Maintain focus in a high-growth, remote startup environment by knowing when to engage collaboratively and when to work independently with deep concentration.
- • Partner effectively with opinionated designers, marketers, and product managers through inspiration, negotiation, and constructive collaboration.
- • Contribute to a product that transforms how people with learning differences—such as dyslexia, ADD, low vision, concussions, and autism—access and consume information.
- • Build and improve technology at the intersection of artificial intelligence and audio, enabling users to listen to web articles, cloud documents, and books at their own pace.
- • Operate within a hands-off management structure that empowers autonomy and encourages ownership of technical decisions and outcomes.
- • Help shape the future of a rapidly growing company by contributing to foundational systems used by millions of users worldwide.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proficiency in Kotlin, with experience in Kotlin Multiplatform preferred
- • Strong systems thinking and ability to design end-to-end solutions with simplicity and reliability as priorities
- • Experience shipping cloud functions, backend services, or background jobs using Kotlin
- • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, remote startup environment with asynchronous collaboration
- • Proven track record of collaborating with product, design, and marketing teams to balance technical constraints with user needs
- • Prior experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a plus
