- • Collaborate with Product Teams to scope projects, reduce scope for faster customer feedback, and navigate integration/UX tradeoffs across platforms using Speechify’s cross-platform SDK.
- • Optimize existing functionality to improve performance metrics such as faster loading times and more intelligent parsing by designing efficient abstractions and refining algorithms.
- • Ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs using Kotlin.
- • Design and maintain foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s core product experience across all platforms.
- • Balance strategic system design with rapid iteration, identifying what can ship immediately versus what requires longer-term refinement.
- • Work closely with designers, marketers, and product managers to inspire, negotiate, and align on technical solutions that enhance user experience.
- • Focus on simplicity and reliability in API design and system architecture to ensure scalability and maintainability.
- • Contribute to a high-growth startup environment with a remote, asynchronous team, knowing when to engage collaboratively and when to work independently.
- • Build systems that directly support users with learning differences including dyslexia, ADD, low vision, concussions, and autism.
- • Work at the intersection of product and infrastructure, translating user needs into robust technical solutions that enable seamless audio information consumption.
- • Drive end-to-end system optimization by considering the full stack—from client-side SDKs to cloud-based backend services.
- • Prioritize measurable improvements in user experience through technical innovation in audio parsing, delivery, and playback.
- • Maintain a hands-on approach to engineering while operating in a low-management, high-autonomy culture focused on results.
- • Contribute to a product that is transforming how people access information through audio, positioning Speechify as the leading platform in its category.

🎯 Requirements
- • Proficiency in Kotlin, with experience in Kotlin Multiplatform preferred
- • Strong systems thinking and ability to design end-to-end solutions with simplicity and reliability as priorities
- • Experience shipping cloud functions, backend services, or jobs using Kotlin
- • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with product, design, and marketing teams in a fast-paced startup
- • Demonstrated speed in generating and executing technical solutions while prioritizing what to ship now versus later
- • Focus and discipline to thrive in a remote, asynchronous, high-growth environment
