- • Collaborate with Speechify’s Product Teams to scope projects, reduce scope for faster customer feedback, navigate integration and UX tradeoffs across platforms, and deliver solutions via the cross-platform SDK.
- • Optimize existing functionality to improve performance, including faster loading times and more intelligent parsing, by designing more efficient abstractions and enhancing core algorithms.
- • Ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs using Kotlin.
- • Work at the intersection of product and infrastructure to build and maintain foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s product experience across all platforms.
- • Design clear, reliable APIs and simple systems that directly enhance the user experience while balancing technical complexity with usability.
- • Engage in end-to-end system design, prioritizing simplicity and long-term maintainability over short-term fixes.
- • Work quickly to generate ideas, evaluate options, and determine which features can ship immediately versus those requiring further refinement.
- • Maintain focus in a high-growth, remote startup environment by knowing when to engage collaboratively and when to work independently with deep concentration.
- • Partner effectively with opinionated designers, marketers, and product managers through inspiration, negotiation, and constructive collaboration.
- • Contribute to a product that transforms how people access information, particularly supporting users with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADD, low vision, concussions, and autism.
- • Operate within a hands-off management structure that empowers autonomy and encourages ownership of technical decisions and outcomes.
- • Help shape the future of an industry at the intersection of artificial intelligence and audio, contributing to a product used by millions worldwide.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proficiency in Kotlin, with experience in Kotlin Multiplatform preferred
- • Strong systems thinking and ability to design end-to-end solutions with simplicity and reliability as priorities
- • Proven ability to ship high-quality code quickly while making strategic tradeoffs between speed and scalability
- • Experience building and maintaining cloud functions, backend services, or lightweight infrastructure using Kotlin
- • Demonstrated collaboration skills working with product, design, and marketing teams in a remote startup environment
- • Prior experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) is a plus
