- • Collaborate with Speechify’s Product Teams to scope projects, reduce scope for faster customer feedback, navigate integration and UX tradeoffs across platforms, and deliver solutions via the company’s cross-platform SDK.
- • Optimize existing functionality to improve performance metrics such as faster loading times and more intelligent parsing by designing more efficient abstractions and enhancing core algorithms.
- • Ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs using Kotlin as the primary development language.
- • Work at the intersection of product and infrastructure to build and maintain foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s core user experience across all platforms.
- • Design clear, reliable, and scalable APIs that directly enhance the user experience while maintaining system simplicity and reliability.
- • Engage in end-to-end system design, ensuring optimizations consider the full stack from client to cloud, with a focus on simplicity and long-term maintainability.
- • Work within a high-growth, remote startup environment, balancing focused deep work with collaborative engagement with designers, marketers, and product managers.
- • Prioritize speed in decision-making and execution, identifying which features can ship immediately versus those requiring further iteration or research.
- • Contribute to a product that transforms how people access information, particularly supporting users with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADD, low vision, concussions, and autism.
- • Operate in a hands-off management environment that emphasizes autonomy, trust, and asynchronous collaboration to enable maximum individual impact.
- • Participate in shaping the technical direction of a rapidly scaling product in the intersection of artificial intelligence and audio technology.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proficiency in Kotlin, with experience in Kotlin Multiplatform preferred
- • Strong systems thinking and ability to design end-to-end solutions with simplicity and reliability as priorities
- • Experience shipping cloud functions, backend services, or jobs in a production environment
- • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, remote startup environment with cross-functional teams
- • Demonstrated speed in generating options and making decisions on what to ship now versus later
- • Experience collaborating with product, design, and marketing teams to navigate tradeoffs and deliver user-centric solutions
