- • Collaborate with Product Teams to scope projects, reduce scope for faster customer feedback, and navigate integration/UX tradeoffs across platforms using Speechify’s cross-platform SDK.
- • Optimize existing functionality to improve performance metrics such as faster loading times and more intelligent parsing by designing efficient abstractions and enhancing core algorithms.
- • Design, build, and ship cloud functions, lightweight backend services, and background jobs using Kotlin.
- • Work at the intersection of product and infrastructure to develop foundational services and SDKs that power Speechify’s core user experience across all platforms.
- • Prioritize simplicity and reliability in system design, ensuring APIs are clear, maintainable, and directly enhance the end-user experience.
- • Apply systems thinking to solve problems end-to-end, balancing technical depth with product needs and user impact.
- • Work in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment with a remote team, knowing when to engage collaboratively and when to focus independently.
- • Partner with designers, marketers, and product managers to inspire, negotiate, and align on technical solutions that serve both user needs and business goals.
- • Contribute to a product that transforms how people consume information, particularly supporting users with learning differences such as dyslexia, ADD, low vision, concussions, and autism.
- • Drive innovation in the intersection of artificial intelligence and audio technology, helping shape the future of accessible information consumption.
- • Maintain and evolve the technical foundation of Speechify’s platform, ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance as the user base grows exponentially.
- • Balance speed of delivery with long-term system health, identifying which features can ship immediately and which require deeper design and iteration.
- • Leverage Kotlin Multiplatform expertise to build shared codebases that unify functionality across iOS, Android, web, and desktop platforms.
- • Contribute to an asynchronous, hands-off management culture that emphasizes autonomy, trust, and high-impact work.
- • Build and maintain systems that enable Speechify to remain the #1 product in its category through continuous technical excellence and user-centric design.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proficiency in Kotlin, with experience in Kotlin Multiplatform preferred
- • Experience building and shipping cloud functions, backend services, and jobs
- • Strong systems thinking and ability to design end-to-end solutions with simplicity and reliability
- • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with product, design, and marketing teams
- • Experience optimizing performance-critical systems (e.g., loading times, parsing efficiency)
- • Comfort working in a fast-paced, remote startup environment with asynchronous communication
