• As a Senior Software Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and operating the foundational data systems that power Coinbase.
• This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a challenging, high-impact environment and is passionate about leveraging data to drive innovation and efficiency.
• You will be instrumental in developing and maintaining scalable data infrastructure, ensuring data accessibility, reliability, and security for teams across the organization.
• The Data Platform team is a critical component of the Platform Product Group, which focuses on building a trusted, scalable, and compliant platform for operating with speed, efficiency, and quality.
• Your responsibilities will span the full spectrum of data systems, from managing core data storage and processing to developing sophisticated pipelines and tools.
• You will contribute to the design and implementation of foundational data-heavy services, including cloud data warehouses, data lakes, orchestration tools like Airflow, batch processing frameworks such as Spark and SQL, and streaming services like Kafka.
• You will also work with query federation, caching mechanisms, time-series databases, graph databases, and real-time event aggregation stores.
• A key aspect of this role involves building and maintaining robust data integration and process SDKs, enabling seamless data flow for internal services and product teams throughout Coinbase.
• You will have the opportunity to design and develop self-service applications that empower users to manage and troubleshoot their own data pipelines, fostering greater autonomy and efficiency.
• Furthermore, you will be responsible for designing and building services that ensure end-to-end data security and observability, including managing access controls, tracking data quality, cataloging datasets and their lineage, and implementing usage auditing.
• You will translate complex functional requests from data analysts, machine learning engineers, and security & compliance teams into reusable, scalable patterns.
• Your work will involve assembling data microservices into comprehensive data platforms that support critical business verticals and user cohorts.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering.
• Strong backend development skills in Python, Go, or Java.
• General experience working with data systems or data pipelines.
• Familiarity with design patterns such as scale-out, caching, key/value, and columnar.
• Experience leveraging SQL, Python, Airflow, and BI expertise for data analysis and operational insights.
• Nice to have: Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.
