📋 Description
- • Parafin is on a mission to empower small businesses by providing them with seamless access to essential financial tools. We are building the technology that bridges the gap between traditional financial institutions and the needs of modern small businesses, enabling them to thrive in today's competitive landscape. By partnering with leading platforms such as DoorDash, Amazon, Worldpay, and Mindbody, we deliver integrated solutions for fast and flexible funding, efficient spend management, and strategic savings tools directly to their users. Parafin assumes the full spectrum of complexity involved in capital markets, underwriting, servicing, compliance, and customer service, allowing our partners to focus on their core businesses.
- • We are a dynamic and innovative team, comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds from industry leaders like Stripe, Square, Plaid, Coinbase, Robinhood, and CERN. Our collective passion is centered around creating impactful tools that foster the success of small businesses. Parafin is a well-funded Series C company, supported by prominent venture capitalists including GIC, Notable Capital, Redpoint Ventures, Ribbit Capital, and Thrive Capital, having raised over $194M in equity and $340M in debt facilities. We invite you to join us in shaping a future where every small business has the financial resources and tools necessary for growth and stability.
- • This pivotal role within Parafin's Infrastructure team calls for a seasoned Senior Software Engineer to spearhead the development and evolution of our next-generation Data Platform. Your expertise will be instrumental in ensuring our data infrastructure is not only reliable and scalable but also exceptionally developer-friendly, supporting our rapid growth and the increasing demands of financial services for small businesses.
- • As a Senior Software Engineer on the Data Platform team, you will be entrusted with the end-to-end design, development, and ongoing maintenance of the sophisticated systems responsible for ingesting, transforming, and serving data across the entire organization. You will collaborate closely with Data Science, Platform Engineering, and Product Engineering teams, acting as a key enabler for data-driven product development and strategic decision-making.
- • Your core responsibilities will include designing and constructing robust, highly scalable data pipelines and lakehouse infrastructure, leveraging technologies such as PySpark, Databricks, and Airflow on AWS. A significant aspect of your role will be to enhance the data platform development experience for our Engineering, Data Science, and Product teams. This will involve creating intuitive abstractions, developing self-service tooling, and providing comprehensive documentation to empower users and streamline workflows.
- • You will take ownership of and maintain critical data pipelines and models that are fundamental to our internal dashboards, machine learning models, and customer-facing products. This includes ensuring their performance, reliability, and scalability.
- • A key area of focus will be the administration and optimization of the Data & ML platform infrastructure using Terraform. This encompasses the end-to-end management of Databricks workspaces, including user access control, performance monitoring, configuration optimization (e.g., clusters, lakehouse settings), and ensuring the high availability of all data pipelines.
- • You will lead strategic projects aimed at elevating data quality, implementing rigorous testing frameworks, enhancing observability, and optimizing cost efficiency across our existing pipelines and backend systems. Examples include migrating Databricks SQL pipelines to dbt, scaling data ingestion processes, improving data lineage tracking, and bolstering monitoring capabilities.
- • You will serve as the primary engineering partner for the Data Science team, working in close proximity to deeply understand their requirements, design scalable and efficient solutions, and provide comprehensive end-to-end support for all engineering aspects of their initiatives.
- • Collaboration will be essential as you work closely with backend engineers and data scientists to architect performant data models and provide engineering support for new product development initiatives, ensuring data considerations are integrated from the outset.
- • Furthermore, you will play a vital role in sharing best practices, providing technical guidance, and mentoring other engineers who are working on data-centric systems, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.

- • Hands-on experience with foundational data infrastructure technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Kafka (or similar streaming platforms), Delta Lake/Iceberg, and distributed query engines like Trino/Presto.
- • Familiarity with ingestion frameworks, developer experience tooling, and best practices for data versioning, lineage, partitioning, and clustering.
- • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude toward ownership and platform health.
- • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross-functional settings.
