Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • As a Senior Software Engineer on Fivetran’s Databases team, you will play a critical role in ensuring that customer data flows seamlessly, reliably, and efficiently into data warehouses — making access to data as simple and reliable as electricity. Your work directly enables thousands of companies to become truly data-driven by eliminating the engineering burden of building and maintaining data pipelines.
- • You will write, test, and deliver high-quality Java code for data pipeline services, focusing on performance, reliability, and scalability across relational and NoSQL databases including IBM Db2, CockroachDB, MongoDB, Amazon DynamoDB, and Azure Cosmos DB. Daily responsibilities include breaking down complex projects into estimable tasks, conducting thorough code reviews, mentoring junior engineers, and independently designing technical solutions that minimize technical debt while maximizing system resilience.
- • You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams — including customer support — to diagnose and resolve production issues, ensuring SLAs are met and customer trust is maintained. Your work spans the full software development lifecycle: from requirements gathering and prototyping to implementation, testing, release, and monitoring, all within a hybrid work model that blends two days per week in the Oakland or Toronto office with remote flexibility.
- • Fivetran’s Databases team is a high-impact, fast-growing unit within a company valued at over $5.6 billion, known for its engineering excellence and culture of ‘Get Stuck In, Do the Right Thing, One Team, One Dream.’ You’ll join a global team of innovators committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, where your contributions will directly shape the reliability and performance of the modern data stack.
- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in distributed systems, cloud-native architectures, and high-volume data processing while gaining visibility into how enterprise-scale data integration works at scale. You’ll have the opportunity to influence technical direction, mentor peers, and grow into a technical leader — all while working on problems that power the data strategies of Fortune 500 companies and startups alike.
🎯 Requirements
- • Expertise in Java development with a strong track record of writing clean, maintainable, and testable code
- • Proven experience developing reliable software for high-volume data management under strict SLAs in production environments
- • Hands-on experience with major cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization/orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
- • Solid knowledge of NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Amazon DynamoDB, Azure Cosmos DB) and relational systems (IBM Db2, CockroachDB)
- • Ability to troubleshoot complex distributed systems, identify root causes of performance issues, and implement effective optimizations
- • Experience with Bazel, GitHub, and automated testing frameworks (unit and integration tests) is expected
🏖️ Benefits
- • 100% employer-paid medical insurance for employees and dependents
- • Generous paid time-off (PTO) policy, inclusive parental leave, sick time, holidays, and volunteer days
- • RSU stock grants, professional development stipend, monthly cell phone stipend, and access to an innovative mental health support platform
- • Company virtual happy hours, free food, team-building activities, and a hybrid work model with two in-office days per week in Oakland or Toronto
