• As a full-stack engineer with a strong emphasis on frontend development, your primary focus will be designing and implementing innovative features that elevate the survey-taking experience. This involves a comprehensive development lifecycle, from conceptualization and technical specification to coding, rigorous testing, and diligent tracking of post-release technical metrics. A key aspect of this role is ensuring that all developed features not only meet functional requirements but also adhere to the highest standards of accessibility, aligning with WCAG guidelines.
• A significant and exciting part of your work will involve contributing to a major system migration. You will be instrumental in transitioning our existing systems from a Jinja, REST, and Python stack to a modern, robust architecture leveraging React, GraphQL, and Next.js. This migration is crucial for enhancing performance, scalability, and maintainability, ensuring SurveyMonkey remains at the forefront of technological innovation.
• You will champion code quality and testability by implementing comprehensive testing strategies, utilizing tools such as pytest for backend and Jest for frontend testing. This commitment to quality ensures the reliability and stability of our platform.
• Beyond feature development, you will be deeply involved in the ongoing health and performance of our systems. This includes proactively investigating and resolving issues related to performance bottlenecks, security vulnerabilities, maintainability challenges, and scalability limitations. Your analytical skills will be crucial in diagnosing complex problems and implementing effective, long-term solutions.
• We encourage a collaborative approach where you will work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering partners to bring innovative ideas to life, directly adding value for our customers and enhancing their survey experience.
• Your responsibilities will extend to monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues to ensure high availability and compliance with all relevant standards. This proactive approach is vital for maintaining user trust and operational excellence.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of frontend web development experience on high-traffic, highly-visible sites using modern JavaScript, CSS, and HTML.
• Strong experience with React (including hooks, component design, and performance optimizations) and familiarity with TypeScript.
• Experience with GraphQL (e.g., Apollo) and integrating frontend applications with GraphQL backends.
• Experience designing, maintaining, and integrating with REST APIs.
• Experience diagnosing and improving web performance (e.g., Core Web Vitals, Lighthouse).
• Experience with Python web frameworks (e.g., Pyramid).
• Experience developing features that meet WCAG Accessibility guidelines.
• Experience conducting code reviews and mentoring junior engineers.
• Strong interest in AI and experience with AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Claude Code).
• Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with remote engineers and cross-functional partners.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and ceremonies.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
