📋 Description

• Lead the design, architecture, and end-to-end delivery of cloud-native, multi-tenant backend services for Confluent’s Stream Governance platform, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security across AWS, GCP, and Azure regions.
• Own mission-critical services such as Confluent Schema Registry, Data Contracts, and Policies that enforce data quality and integrity across real-time event streams.
• Architect and implement distributed systems handling high-throughput, event-driven data pipelines with strict 99.99% SLA requirements spanning 100+ cloud regions.
• Drive technical decision-making that balances reliability, performance, scalability, and operability for large-scale, cloud-based microservices.
• Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, design reviews, and technical coaching to elevate team capabilities and uphold high engineering standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define, prioritize, and execute the roadmap for the Stream Governance product portfolio aligned with Confluent’s overall data streaming mission.
• Evaluate and enhance the platform’s technology stack by incorporating industry-best practices and emerging cloud-native technologies to maintain competitive advantage.
• Participate in on-call rotations for production services, taking ownership of incident response, root cause analysis, and system improvements to minimize downtime and improve resilience.
• Ensure services are secure, compliant, and operable in multi-cloud environments with deep understanding of networking, identity management, and cloud security controls.
• Champion a culture of inclusive collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence by fostering open feedback, transparent communication, and team accountability.
• Translate complex business and product requirements into scalable technical solutions that serve global enterprise customers using Kafka and real-time data architectures.
• Contribute to technical vision and strategy beyond your team, influencing cross-org initiatives and driving adoption of standardized governance practices across Confluent’s platform.
• Deliver high-quality software through rigorous testing, automation, and operational excellence, ensuring services are observable, maintainable, and easy to operate at scale.
• Engage in architectural reviews and design discussions to standardize best practices for distributed systems, consensus protocols, consistency models, and fault tolerance.
• Remain current with industry trends in data streaming, cloud infrastructure, and backend engineering to ensure Confluent’s platform leads in innovation and performance.

🎯 Requirements

• 7+ years of industry experience designing, building, scaling, and operating backend systems in production
• Deep proficiency in at least one major backend programming language (e.g., Java, Go, C/C++, or Python) and strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design
• Hands-on experience with distributed systems, such as event-driven architectures, high-throughput services, or large-scale data pipelines, with a strong understanding of consistency, fault tolerance, and performance tradeoffs
• Strong experience running production services in a public cloud (AWS, GCP, or Azure), including containerized workloads (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
• Expertise in cloud-native technology, including networking & security, and experience being part of an on-call rotation
• Proven experience in leading and mentoring technical teams and driving projects with technical influence across multiple engineers or teams
