- • Steward the technical direction of Optro’s backend TypeScript monorepo, taking primary ownership of build orchestration, code quality tooling (linting, formatting, static analysis), and inner-loop tooling that supports both human and automated development.
- • Design and build monorepo scaffolding, shared libraries, and code generation patterns to make it trivial for any contributor to maintain backend services in alignment with current standards.
- • Optimize test execution efficiency by partnering with quality assurance stakeholders to improve test sharding, build graph caching, and feedback speed, ensuring minimal developer wait-times.
- • Collaborate with dedicated CI engineering resources to ensure backend and monorepo execution pipelines are fast, deterministic, and deliver direct, actionable feedback to developer environments.
- • Drive repeatable and safe automation by building CLI scripts, configurations, and tooling that can be executed repeatedly by engineers or automated systems without introducing side effects or configuration drift.
- • Partner across engineering teams—including architects, developers, and quality engineers—to identify build and test friction points, run developer surveys, and drive adoption of platform-wide tooling and standards.
- • Act as a key maintainer and steward of the Backend CI system, ensuring the developer experience (DX) remains a top lever for engineering velocity as the monorepo scales.
- • Turn the monorepo into a highly efficient environment capable of supporting a 10x acceleration in developer actions, whether manual or automated, through a stable, shared, and hyper-optimized build, test, and code maintenance infrastructure.
- • Ensure the development loop is fast, predictable, and robust for all code contributors—including engineers, designers, product managers, and AI agents—by enforcing consistent code quality standards and streamlined workflows.
- • Contribute to the evolution of Optro’s platform by balancing immediate developer pain points with long-term infrastructure scaling needs in a rapidly changing technical landscape.
- • Write clear Engineering Design Docs (EDDs) and build consensus across diverse engineering, testing, and architecture disciplines to guide shared platform initiatives without direct organizational authority.
- • Maintain a platform mindset by creating reusable, opinionated tooling and automation that simplifies workflows and enforces clean, scalable engineering standards across the organization.
- • Leverage developer-facing metrics (such as DORA, build/test telemetry, and runtime analysis) to quantify improvements in developer experience and guide iterative enhancements to the tooling ecosystem.
🎯 Requirements
- • 6+ years of professional software development experience, with a heavy emphasis on backend systems, platform tools, or build/test infrastructure at a non-trivial scale.
- • Expert-level proficiency in Node.js and TypeScript, with a deep understanding of language features, asynchronous patterns, and backend performance tuning.
- • Substantial hands-on experience designing, scaling, and managing complex workspace environments utilizing modern build orchestration tools (such as pnpm, Turborepo, or similar).
- • Experience building reusable scaffolding, scripts, and tooling designed to simplify workflows and enforce clean standards for other engineers.
- • A track record of designing automation, CLI scripts, or codemods that are deterministic, side-effect-free, and safe to execute repeatedly in a continuous-run environment.
- • Exceptional written and verbal communication; a proven track record of writing clear EDDs, building consensus across diverse engineering disciplines, and guiding shared platform initiatives without direct organizational authority.
